Spruce Cottage Farm

Spruce Cottage Farm Spruce Cottage Farm provides locally grown bedding plants and produce to the Kluane region. Welcome to Spruce Cottage Farm!

My name is Jolene Billwiller and I am delighted to share my passion for all things gardening with you. Spruce Cottage Farm is located at various spots throughout Haines Junction, Yukon, gateway to the magnificent Kluane country, in the traditional territory of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations - a challenging growing area that keeps me on my toes (snow in June, anyone?)! I grow vegetable, f

lower and herb starts for sale as well as produce for myself and for market. I also save seeds, grow cut and dried flowers and culinary and medicinal herbs, as well as hosting seasonal workshops and providing organic gardening education. My gardening inspiration comes from many places: my landscape, my wish to grow food for myself and others, my desire to share my gardening knowledge and the gratitude I feel for my mentors; plus its super-fun! It is so satisfying to cook with vegetables and herbs you have grown yourself or to brighten your home with vibrant flowers nurtured by your own hands. Let me inspire you to create a garden space to suit your needs and desires - be it a two acre farm or a collection of containers. Thank you for visiting my page, be sure to check out my Website too! Greetings! Here we are at the end of May already - and the full moon is on Sunday, which means we might actually be able to start leaving plants outside unprotected and transplanting our gardens!

At our latitude, our weather generally shifts for the better at this late-Spring full moon (and a quick glance at the weather forecast is looking good too, once the moon has passed). Here we go!

It's the fifth open weekend of the season! The greenhouse is bursting with beautiful plants and the pansies and lobelia are blooming, so come on out to experience some green-growing-flower energy and bring your gardening questions!

Greetings! I can't tell you how wonderful it is to see all the life happening around us right now, as our Spring gets into full swing.

As always at this time of year, I am obsessed with the birds that have returned for their breeding season, and I find such wonder and joy in their song, bustle and remarkable ability to thrive in a land that is just starting to give. Maybe this year, I'll actually figure out where the Yellow-rumped Warbler pair is nesting!

Nursery Pot Credit Program Pilot Project - I am very excited to announce this pilot project!

Phasing out single-use black plastic pots is an important step in my goal of shifting to a sustainable Plant Nursery: only 9% of the plastic waste generated in Canada is recycled; the rest ends up in landfills, incinerators or the environment as litter.

A Nursery Pot Credit Program is relatively unique in the industry, especially in smaller pot sizes and we are going for it - Spruce Cottage Farm has such an engaged and caring gardening community, I feel certain this pilot project will be a success!

I'll have handouts available at the Nursery with all the details!

It's the 4th open weekend of the season! The greenhouse is looking amazing, and the pansies are blooming, so come on out to experience some green-growing energy and bring your gardening questions!

The seed racks are stocked with West Coast Seeds and I've got locally grown seed garlic too!

Ready to go this weekend are the first round of brassicas, as well as the second round of petunia and lobelia, along with bacopa and peppers. As well as everything that's been ready since I opened too, of course!

The Nursery is located at 103121 Alaska Highway, 10mins west of Haines Junction, just past Bear Creek, on the right. Watch for the sandwich board! Open Fridays 12pm-6pm, Saturdays and Sundays 10am-4pm. See you there!
