I stand beside the road today,
Keeping danger far away.
Red means stop, yellow prepare,
Green means go with extra care.
Through the rain and summer heat,
I guide the wheels along the street.
One lane open, one lane closed,
Safety first is what I chose.
Watching workers, watching cars,
Protecting crews beneath the stars.
A steady hand, a careful eye,
Helping everyone get by.

The summer sun is beating down,
On every highway, road, and town.
Engines running, traffic near,
So work smart and stay aware.
Hydrate early, hydrate often,
Heat can hit before it’s noticed.
A tired mind can miss a sign,
So take your breaks and give it time.
Watch your buffers, check your lane,
Never rush to beat the rain.
Communication strong and clear,
Keeps every worker safe out here.
From setup time till the last cone’s gone,
Safety has to carry on.
Because at the end of every shift,
Going home safe is the greatest gift.

At Safe Start Safety, we take traffic control seriously.
AFADs are one of the tools recognized in BC traffic control standards to help reduce worker exposure to live traffic. The 2020 TMM defines an AFAD as an automated flagging machine with red and yellow lenses and a gate arm, and WorkSafeBC Part 18 requires traffic control that protects workers and the public through the work zone. Safety is not a shortcut — it’s the standard.
