Another hardworking day on the homestead 🌱☀️

Mike and I started at 10am this morning and didn’t finish until 7pm, but we got so much accomplished getting the vegetable garden ready for the season!

✔️ Weeds picked
✔️ Garden tilled
✔️ Pumpkin patch tilled
✔️ 30 pounds of potatoes planted 🥔
✔️ Onions planted
✔️ Beans planted
✔️ Peas planted
✔️ Cucumbers planted
✔️ Raspberry patch mulched

Still left to plant:
🌽 Corn
🥕 Carrots
🍅 Tomatoes
🫑 Peppers
🥦 Broccoli

Long day, sore muscles, and dirty boots — but days like this are so rewarding. Nothing better than working side by side❤️

Mike and I worked for 3 long days finishing the chicken coop last week. We were both getting very tired of looking outside at another project not finished.
Thanks to Nana and Ma for looking after Leroy so I could help Mike.

Mike and I have been slowly building our orchard since the day we bought this property, and it’s so exciting to see it coming together. Today we added 7 more fruit trees!

We now have:
🍎 3 apple trees
🍑 3 peach trees
🍐 3 pear trees
🌳 3 plum trees

It’s really starting to feel like something special 🙂
One more step to living off the land and cutting down on groceries bills.

3 years ago today are first ducklings hatched!! 2 of the Pekin female are still with us today. They both lay eggs everyday!!
Mike is the one who wanted to get ducks on the homestead. He said they are funny to watch. He was right they honestly sound like they are laughing at us all the time. They are do a great job eating the ticks in the yard and they are very low maintenance ❤️
Happy Birthday to the original gals today 🎉

Did you know quail eggs may be small, but they’re packed with goodness? 🥚✨

Here are a few fun facts about these little farm gems:

• Quail eggs have a higher yolk-to-white ratio than chicken eggs, which makes them extra rich and flavorful.
• They’re packed with protein, iron, B vitamins, and healthy fats.
• The shells are beautifully speckled — each one is unique!
• Because they’re small, they’re perfect for snacks, salads, pickling, or fancy appetizers.
• Quail mature quickly and lay eggs at a young age, which means steady production.

Tiny eggs… big nutrition 💛
I collected these 52 eggs in 1 week!

Have you ever tried quail eggs before?

Every year Mike and I plant a big vegetable garden to help put food away for the winter months — and of course to enjoy fresh veggies all summer long 🌱

We plant tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers, onions, garlic, carrots, corn, peas, beans, peppers, strawberrys, blueberries, raspberrys, broccoli (our first time growing it!), and pumpkins for Halloween and the farm animals love to eat them.

I’ve tried starting seeds before, but they either didn’t make it or I gave up too soon. I’m so happy to say that two months in, they are thriving! 🙌

Here’s to another great gardening season and a pantry full of homegrown goodness. 💚

Garlic is usually planted in the fall… but last year, I was very pregnant and it just didn’t happen 🤍

So my garlic bulbs spent the winter tucked away in the cold basement. When I checked on them, they were already starting to sprout — clearly ready to grow.

Today I’m finally getting them in the ground. A little late, but we’re giving it a shot! 🌱

Here’s hoping we’ll still be harvesting some beautiful garlic come August. ☀️🧄
