Winter Is Coming: Book Your Liner Install Today

The photos below are from a winter install. We can work in freezing conditions, but production drops and costs rise. Why winter costs more:

♦ Access/Safety: Smooth geomembrane is nearly unwalkable — traction mats become the only path.
♦ Seaming: Cold temperatures narrow welding windows, leading to more resets and slower linear meters.
♦ Subgrade: Frozen or wet bases require thawing, drying or sand blinding.
♦ Weather Holds/QC: Snow, wind and condensation add cleaning time, testing time, and delays.

If you must install in winter:

➟ Specify textured HDPE/LLDPE (per GRI-GM13/GM17) for traction and safety.
➟ Plan for weather breaks, preheat and snow/ice management.
➟ Allow for reduced production rates in your schedule.

Our team recently wrapped up a dipole survey on a 62,000 m² square pond with a single geomembrane liner and a 1 ft. sand backfill. As you can see from the video below, the subgrade was completely saturated, and the rain didn’t make things any drier. But that didn’t slow us down—if anything, it worked in our favor.

Why?

A wet subgrade actually enhances leak detection. The moisture helps conductive pathways form, ensuring water flows through any holes in the liner, carrying electrical current that our advanced equipment can precisely detect.

Our ELL team took on the challenge and completed the survey in just 3 days, identifying all existing holes with pinpoint accuracy.
