Good morning Haldimand County! As you know, we have been working through some of our small towns with our company initiatives focusing this year on some very basic issues.

Our lovely downtown areas throughout Haldimand County at times need some TLC. Small simple basic things that anyone who visits these areas sees. Although we have so many wonderful volunteer groups throughout the county that help with many things, they just cannot be expected to do everything. This is where we hoped to help out in lending a hand in the communities we serve, work, live, & play in.

Unfortunately we will not be able to continue this initiative of cleaning up and maintaining overgrown w**ds, litter and debris that create a eyesore and unpleasant appearance for not only our citizens, but our many many tourists during this time of year that local businesses depend on.

We assisted the Cayuga Chamber of Commerce last week to help create a clean and vibrant appearance of the core downtown areas, and we have now been formally issued a cease and desist order to comply directly from Haldimand County.

Stating concerns regarding insurance and WSIB, we understand these concerns, but are fully covered and already have the County listed under this coverage.

It was also stated that we were not asked to take on and or do any of this work and that residents, individuals, contractors, businesses and/or organizations are not authorized to perform work on Haldimand County owned property, unless under contract etc.

It also states that if we and/or the public have concerns regarding maintenance,condition or safety of municipal property to contact and report through Haldimand established reporting channels.

I think we are now getting to the point.

So, Haldimand County does not want to accept the responsibility of keeping and maintaining their infrastructure in what I would say falls under Property Standards and Clean Yards in my opinion. Even though they see it! They drive by it everyday but it’s easier to ignore it.

I hope Haldimand County pulls up their sleeves and gets to work on maintaining these areas now and in the future if they don’t want any one else to do it.

Be sure to send those emails and make those phone calls about your local downtown areas and let them know how you feel about the lack of accountability on their behalf.
