Another successful renovation! 😍 This client wanted to replace an old tub with a walk-in shower, but didn't want to lose the ability to have a bath-- so why not have both? The glorious tile selection (Opal Wall from Euro Tile & Stone) and new stone-like floor is a luxurious upgrade. Of course, it's not just about how it looks. It's also waterproofed with wedi® (this project qualified for a 15-yr PRO installer warranty) and proper uncoupling membrane was installed for the floor--- a step often skipped it seems in Deep River's past, leading to much cracked tile and dislodged grout in the area.

Hi Deep River, James here 😁 A small confession: Some of my past bathroom renovation clients were surprised by the amount of work I put into a project *way* before the tools come out! I want my clients to know exactly what they are getting and how much it will cost well before we begin.

I'm always surprised when I see homeowners embark on major renovations with a contractor based on nothing more than a crayon sketch and a "we'll see how it goes" attitude on an hourly handshake agreement. I suppose some projects must go fine that way, but a lot of the horror stories start like this! I say, why take the chance?

I do it very differently. I make detailed proposal packages for my potential clients. I come to their home, measure the space, talk through options and priorities, and then I put together a written scope and proposal that fits their needs and budget. In many cases we do a full-blown design session together. I often draft floor plans and conceptual drawings. The package I give people before we even start the job is usually at least 10+ pages.

I genuinely enjoy helping people piece together the details:
• the fun aesthetic stuff (style, vibe, clean finishes)
• the functional stuff (storage, lighting, ease of cleaning, accessibility)
• and the behind-the-wall stuff that makes it last (waterproofing, substrate, what we can and can’t do in the space)

A lot of people think they’re “not ready” to talk to a contractor because they haven’t chosen everything yet. Tile, fixtures, paint, layout, what stays, what moves… it can feel like a lot.

But that’s exactly where I’m most useful!

Dust control is VERY important during a renovation! We use poles, plastic sheeting, negative air pressure, and floor protection during dust generating activities such as demolition and drywall sanding.

"Opening a window" or worse-- "running the bathroom exhaust fan" is not sufficient and can actually aggravate dust issues.

We include this protection by default in all renovation proposals. In our opinion, it should not be considered an add-on service. It's a basic part of doing an excellent job.

We transformed this Stonecliffe bathroom using polished rectified porcelain tile, matte black hardware, a pivot door, a suspended bench seat, plus wedi waterproofing (backed by a 15-year PRO installer warranty). The client was thrilled with the final result!

The goal was to open up the space while keeping that cozy “cave” feeling the clients loved from their previous shower — and it turned out beautifully.

This project began with a call about leaking and tile failure on the old shower pan, which led us to discover a waterproofing issue from the previous installation. We were glad to get everything rebuilt properly this time around.

Full bathroom makeover in Deep River! Clean, modern, simple. The feature upgrade of shower doors will help keep water contained, matching the all chrome fixtures.
