Can you paint a light colour over a dark wall?

Yes, but getting a clean, even finish may take a little more work than just rolling a lighter colour straight over top.

Depending on the existing colour, the condition of the walls and the new colour you’re going with, proper prep and primer can make a big difference. Trying to save time by skipping steps can sometimes mean needing more coats in the end anyway.

The short answer: dark walls don’t mean you’re stuck with dark walls. They just need to be handled properly.
