Traveling this summer? Take a few minutes to check your hotel room before you unpack. Bed bugs are expert hitchhikers, and hotels are one of their most common hiding spots. Inspect mattress seams, check the headboard and surrounding furniture, and keep your luggage off the bed. A little extra attention goes a long way. Read our full guide on what to check before you settle in: https://www.abellpestcontrol.com/en-ca/about-us/articles/check-your-hotel-room-for-bedbugs-before-settling-in. It's Bed Bug Awareness Week. Know the signs before they follow you home. Bed bugs are sneakier than you think. They turn up in cars, movie theaters, gyms, even electronics. Not just beds.
Here's what to watch for:
· Small dark spots (f***l matter) on mattresses or furniture
· Shed skins, eggs, or the bugs themselves
· Red, itchy welts after waking up
Spot something? Don't ignore it. Bed bugs spread fast, and they won't go away on their own. Give us a call. We're on it. 1888-949-4949.

Tomorrow, June 6, is World Pest Day, and we celebrated in true Abell fashion by dressing up as pests across the country! We love any opportunity to have a little fun while celebrating the people doing this work every day. Our technicians are out there protecting homes, businesses, and communities. They prevent disease, protect food, and look after properties and animals. It's important work that often goes unnoticed, and today it deserves a little extra recognition. Thank you to everyone on the Abell team.

As temperatures rise, flies become more active and breed quickly. They find their way in through small gaps around windows and doors, and once they find a food source, they're hard to get rid of.
Beyond the annoyance, flies are a real health concern. They feed on garbage, raw meat, and decaying matter, then land on your counters and food, carrying bacteria with them. A little preparation now goes a long way. And if they do become a problem this summer, the Abell team is ready to help. With wildlife season underway, now is the time to be aware of the risks rabies poses to your family and pets. Common carriers such as bats, raccoons, and foxes are more active this time of year. A rabid animal isn't always easy to identify, as unusual calmness can be just as concerning as aggression, particularly around young children. If wildlife appears on your property, do not approach it. Contact a pest control professional for safe, proper removal. Canada has around 40 tick species, and a handful can do real harm. Abell Pest Control has seen tick-related calls jump 500% over the past five years, so knowing which tick you're dealing with matters.
• Blacklegged Tick (Deer Tick) - The one to watch. Canada's primary carrier of Lyme disease is found across central and eastern Canada and along BC's coast. Caught early, it's treatable with antibiotics. Left too long, it can cause serious neurological damage.
• American Dog Tick - Ranges from Saskatchewan to the Atlantic provinces. Doesn't carry Lyme, but does transmit Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Tularemia.
• Brown Dog Tick - The most common tick found indoors, typically hitchhiking in on pets. Check your animals every time they come inside.
• Rocky Mountain Wood Tick - Lives at higher elevations in BC and Alberta. Transmits Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and can cause tick paralysis in both people and animals.

After any time outside, check yourself, your kids, and your pets. Every single time. Learn more: https://www.abellpestcontrol.com/en-ca/my-business/commercial/tick-prevention
