Come with me on a journey through a Bathroom Floor renovation.
Step one: remove all of the furniture from the room, turn off all water supplies, disconnect all of the fittings, and the plumbing from under the sink and carefully place somewhere out of the way.
Step two: Remove the baseboard carefully cutting the caulking away from the wall, so it can be put back seamlessly.
Step three: Using a hammer drill and a spade bit remove all of the existing tile from the floor. After the tile has been removed and disposed of, chip up the remaining thin set that is stuck to the subfloor. Lastly, sand off any remaining thin set to ensure that the subfloor is smooth and even.
Step four: install Schluter Ditra mat with Schluter membrane thin set mortar.
Step five: begin planning your tile layout by laying tiles out across the room and lengthwise. This allows you to plan the best looking cut that will be at the edge of the tub. And install the tile with thin set mortar and tile levelling 1/16”spacers.
Step six: the following day smash out all of the spacers with a rubber mallet and clean all of the joints to remove all of the thin set from the surface of the tile and the joints. Wash the tile down to ensure that the tile is free of dust and debris.
Step seven: apply your grout with a rubber, grout float and wash the surface with a grout sponge. Repeat this process with clean water and after the grout dries, remove any excess dust with a microfibre cloth.
Step eight: replace all of the baseboards and seal them to the wall and each other with paintable caulking.
Step nine: install the toilet with a new toilet seal and brass bolts. Reconnect the water supply and turn it on let the tank fill and flush the test that it is working and that there are no leaks.
Step 10: put the vanity back in place reconnect all of the plumbing underneath the sink as well as the water supplies turn on the water and test that there are no leaks.
Step 11: seal the back edge of the sink to the tile backsplash as well as the edge of the tub where it meets the tile at the floor with caulking.
Step 12: cut and install the threshold transition where the bathroom floor meets the living room floor.
Step 13: install the door. And hope that it still has enough clearance and that you don’t have to trim the bottom of the door. In this case, I did not it was a perfect fit, albeit barely.
And there you have it pack up your tools roll any mess up in the drop cloth as you back your way out of the door.
That is a Bathroom Floor renovation. Four days work.
