Hi, I’m Cory McKibbin, a 3rd-year Landscape Horticulturist apprentice based in Camrose, Alberta. I’ve completed my second year of schooling at Olds College and currently work in the restoration and maintenance of public landscapes.

Outside of that, I take on private landscaping and consulting jobs with a focus on sustainable practices, thoughtful planting, and natural design. Whether it's refreshing a garden bed, planting small trees and shrubs, or handling seasonal maintenance, I bring experience, a strong work ethic, creativity, and quality to every job.

🇨🇦 We hope everyone had a wonderful Canada Day!

My wife Lisa and I felt especially Canadian yesterday as we had the privilege of planting maple trees on the beautiful CLBI campus here in Camrose. There was something special about planting one of Canada’s most iconic trees on a campus that has been shaping lives for nearly a century.

It has been an absolute pleasure working alongside the CLBI staff to help breathe a little new life into this historic campus. Knowing these trees will continue to grow and be enjoyed by students, staff, and visitors for generations to come is incredibly rewarding.

Thank you, CLBI, for trusting Leading Edge Landscapes to be a small part of your campus’s story. Here’s to preserving the past while planting for the future. 🌳🍁

Happy Canada Day, everyone!

🌧️ What a June it has been!

It’s hard to believe just how much rain we’ve received this month. While the weather has certainly made scheduling a challenge, Leading Edge Landscapes has still been able to complete a number of projects whenever the sun decided to peek through the clouds.

I want to extend a sincere thank you to all of my wonderful clients for your patience, support, and understanding throughout this unusually wet season. I’d also like to thank everyone who has reached out for quotes, ideas, and future landscaping projects. Your trust means the world to me.

It truly is a pleasure to serve such an amazing community, and I’m looking forward to helping even more homeowners create beautiful outdoor spaces as the weather continues to improve.

Here’s hoping for a little more sunshine and a lot more landscaping! 🌿☀️

Just wrapped up this landscape refresh for a lovely client!

We widened and reshaped the existing front rock beds to give the home a cleaner, more defined look, installed fresh edging for crisp lines, and topped everything up with new decorative rock. We also eliminated the difficult patch of grass along the side of the house that never seemed to grow properly, replacing it with a low-maintenance rock bed and edging that ties everything together beautifully.

Simple changes can make a huge difference in curb appeal — clean, low-maintenance, and built to last.

Prune, prune, prune ✂️🌿

There’s something satisfying about cleaning up a plant the right way — removing dead, damaged, and overgrown growth to bring it back to life. Proper pruning isn’t just about looks, it’s about plant health, structure, and setting things up for strong growth this season.

Slow mornings, a hot coffee, and a warm house — I’m grateful for this season of rest.

It may not look like it, but I can feel it…spring is right around the corner, and I’m getting excited to get back outside doing what I love.

Another landscaping season is coming, and I’m ready to help transform some more beautiful landscapes here in Camrose. 🌱

If you’re thinking about a project this year, now’s a great time to start planning.

Over halfway through my Period 3 Landscape Horticulturist training at Olds College and gaining more knowledge every day.

The winter months in the classroom provide a great chance to focus on the technical side of horticulture and refine the skills that translate directly to better landscapes. Ongoing training ensures the latest knowledge and best practices are brought into every project. Looking forward to applying what I’m learning to deliver high-quality landscapes.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Winter is here, and while I’m enjoying the slower snowy season, I’m also heading back to school for a couple of months to continue learning and growing in Landscape Horticulture. It’s the perfect time to prepare for the upcoming season.

Thank you to all my amazing clients and supporters — I’m looking forward to getting back to work and creating great outdoor spaces in the new year! 🌱
