Another busy day in the Firewood yard we were lucky enough to receive a load of Logs today, which are up in cost roughly 20% more than last year .
Firewood prices continue to fluctuate on both ends, and unfortunately, there are several factors contributing to the rising cost of finished firewood. One of the biggest factors is the ongoing increase in fuel and diesel prices. Processing firewood requires equipment that consumes significant amounts of fuel, from cutting and splitting the logs to loading, handling, and delivering the finished product. At the same time, locally available logs are becoming harder to source, which means we increasingly have to travel farther from home and reach out to more distant suppliers to secure quality hardwood. The farther we have to travel to obtain logs, the more fuel, time, and transportation costs are involved, and those additional costs are reflected in the price of the firewood. Delivery costs are also directly affected by fuel prices and the distance required to transport both raw logs and finished firewood. All of these expenses—fuel, transportation, sourcing, equipment operation, and delivery—work together to determine the final cost of producing and delivering firewood. As these operating costs continue to change, the price of finished firewood may also need to fluctuate to reflect the actual cost of getting the product from the forest to your home. We will continue to do our best to source quality hardwood locally whenever possible, keep our operating costs under control, and provide our customers with the best value we can while maintaining a reliable supply of quality firewood.

Thank you to all our customers at this very difficult time for everybody, we all on this ride together. Support local..

A bit of a different (Saturday) job for the books this week. Started out as an elder lady calling me asking me if I was interested in free logs that have been sitting in a fence row for 7-8 years . To cleaning up all the old wood that was rotted in the fence row for her. Also well we were there found out , the propane company told her they were not filling her tank this year anymore because of the weed/tree growth that’s accumulated around it, (down the same fence row) and she had to get it cleared up b4 they would return to fill . So we completed the old wood clean up hauled the garbage wood away an burning what we could and we also found the propane tank , and cleared around it as well . so now she can get it filled b4 winter comes . Needless to say a very happy customer by the time we left.

We also cleaned up a Manitoba maple that split in 1/2 and fell a week ago in the last storm.. which is the last two pictures.

Processing Firewood Logs that are taken down with an excavator or a sheer on an excavator is an absolute pain in the rear end .. No straight cuts, All the wood that’s pushed over fibres and once the sawblade hits it , it’s like flying shrapnel everywhere definitely a lot more work and a lot more up and down… learn my lesson one last final time . Definitely worth an up charge!!
