It's September, and time to start thinking about your 2027 garden!
Existing Gardens: Take photos and note what went well and what didn't, what you liked and what frustrated you. Start your 2027 garden plan now and incorporate the changes - if you wait until 2027, you may not remember.
New Gardens or Expansions: If you're building new beds or garden areas, start planning them now. You may be able to build them this fall and be ready to plant in the spring. If you're booking a company to build them for you, now is the time to reserve your spot before they're all booked up - they're already booking for 2027, and everyone wants their garden built first.
Try New Plants:
- Different tomatoes, like the Indigo Rose, so beautiful.
- Tomatillos are easy to grow and are so interesting with their papery exterior.
- Herbs like French tarragon (perennial), marjoram, stevia (a tiny piece packs a sugary punch), or chervil (annuals). Chervil tastes like licorice and loves part shade. Pineapple sage actually smells like pineapple.
- Radicchio varieties add nice colour with either red or red veined leaves.
- Plant flowers in your vegetable garden. Nasturtiums, marigolds, calendula, and zinnias are great pest deterrent plants and add beautiful colour to the garden.
