We installed 1x6 Hemlock tongue and groove boards for this gazebo’s ceiling. We stained them with Olympic EasySeal in Natural Cedar a few weeks ago and gave them lots of time to dry. We cut out the holes for future pot lights which are going to look stunning. We have a few final cedar boards to install, and we will wrap the ridge beam in cedar and then this gazebo is very close to done. Powered screens and gemstone lighting will be going up next to complete the gazebo!

Summer 2026 was a fantastic one!

We spent most of the summer in NW Calgary, doing a complete backyard renovation for one of our clients. We kicked things off building 6’ privacy fences along their hot tub and one end of their yard. We also built a beautiful arbour over one of the gates.

Then things got really fun as Upper Deck came in and tore up our clients’ entire backyard, to build a concrete pad with sidewalks for a future 14’x14’ cedar gazebo. They also tore up their lawn to be installed fresh sod and new plants.

Then we began to build this gazebo! Framed with 8x8 cedar posts and 2x10 beams covered with cedar fascia, this thing is looking right at home near the Rockies. No Payne Roofing Inc installed a beautiful black metal roof, and soon we will have detachable screens going in to complete this gazebo. And to really top it all off, Water By Design tore out our clients’ previous pond and waterfall and completely sculpted and built a new one.

What a summer!

Water By Design have built our client in Arbour Lake, an absolutely stunning pond with three waterfalls to flow alongside their gazebo. To see the labour, creativity and mastery that goes into this kind of project was truly incredible. Every rock was carefully placed and levelled. Can’t wait to see this lit up at night with the built-in lighting!

We are beyond thrilled with how this cedar timber-framed gazebo is turning out in Calgary. We’ve been so busy working away we haven’t been posting much about it the past few weeks. But there are many details to share from the concrete pad and walkways, to the beams and roof, and we will have all those details coming. There is still so much to do too! We are almost finished with our framing and next will be rough-ins for electrical, retractable screens, metal roof, new waterfall, fire table and so much more! Stay tuned!

This room is pure vibe. This is the living room of a full home renovation we were part of, and while much of the house was renovated, many components like the built-ins and fireplace in this room were left alone. We tore out the tile on the hearth and installed a dark tile that brought some modernization, but the original aesthetic of the room largely remained.

It is very exciting to see the components of this gazebo come together. These rough-cut cedar beams are incredible and we cannot wait to frame up this gazebo, see the retractable screens installed and see the whole project come together.

As concrete is being poured for the footings, floor and walkways, we are beginning to prep the boards and wood for this upcoming gazebo build. Up first, we stained these 1x6 tongue and groove hemlock boards for the ceiling, purchased from Cedar Shop Building Materials. Cedar boards would have been nice, but three times the price. These hemlock boards with stain are going to look beautiful. We were really impressed with the Olympic Easy Seal stain we used. The only friendly warning is some of the boards needed more like 48-72 hours to dry, as opposed to the 24 hours stated in the instructions. Up@next we are picking up our framing wood and will begin staining that.
