Two of the sexiest spaces in the basement of this home are the wet bar and the bathroom.

The bar and w**e room are the focal point as you come down the curved staircase, with black steel and textured glass creating a full wall into the w**e room. Rift-cut white oak warms everything up, while the dark textured countertops and black detailing give the space a moodier feel.

We carried that same rift-cut white oak and dark stone into the bathroom, then went even darker in the shower with a herringbone feature wall. Completely different from the lighter spaces upstairs, but still connected to the rest of the home through the materials.

One of our favourite primary ensuites of all time. Vaulted ceilings and incredible natural light give this room its scale, while the herringbone hardwood carries straight through the space and makes it feel like a continuation of the home rather than just another bathroom.

His-and-hers oak vanities, a dedicated makeup area with plenty of additional storage, a freestanding tub and an oversized steam shower with multiple showerheads were all designed to make this space as functional as it is beautiful.

And behind the custom oak and textured glass French doors, a dreamy walk-in closet with even more built-in storage. Years later, there isn’t much we would change about this one.

A lot of thought went into this laundry room, starting with the sightline from the end of the hallway. We centred that beautiful utility sink beneath the black-framed window, creating a focal point that pulls you into the room and brings in plenty of natural light.

But this room was really designed around function. Three pull-out laundry bins keep sorting out of sight, a full-height tower stores the ironing board and vacuum, and we incorporated plenty of cabinetry and counter space for folding, sorting and keeping everyday life organized.

Even the black slate herringbone floor and full-height tile around the window were intentional, hardworking finishes for a hardworking room, without sacrificing its look.

Let’s explore a few of the spaces on the main level of this home. Just off the foyer, the home office is tucked behind custom oak and textured glass doors. Inside, we carried the oak into the built-in millwork and paired it with traditional wall panelling. Directly across is a formal dining room with access to a butler's pantry and the kitchen.

The great room has 12-foot ceilings, a full wall of black-framed windows and oak ceiling beams that bring warmth to the space. Built-in cabinetry flanks the fireplace, giving the room plenty of storage without taking away from the architecture.

And because no room should feel like an afterthought, the mudroom received the same attention to detail with custom oak cabinetry, integrated bench seating, plenty of closed storage and a place for everything.

Starting the week with a home we completed in 2019, and proof that when you don’t follow the trends, timeless is always the better bet.

For the exterior, we kept the architecture classic with brick, sandstone, strong rooflines and traditional detailing. Once through the custom front doors, the curved staircase becomes one of the defining features of the home, wrapping through all three levels with a large black-framed window bringing natural light into the stairwell.

Seven years later, there isn’t much I would change. Stay tuned for more of this gorgeous home throughout the week.

This kitchen was designed around how this family lives. Lots of room to gather, cook and entertain without everyone ending up in the same spot. Two oversized islands serve completely different functions: one for prep and cleanup, and the second for seating, serving, and gathering.

We kept the perimeter cabinetry light and classic, then brought in dark-stained rift-cut white oak on both islands for contrast. The polished quartzite wraps the end of the second island, while warm brass hardware and those incredible linear pendants add warmth and keep the kitchen from feeling too traditional.

One of our favourite details is the range wall. Rather than filling it with upper cabinetry, we designed the oversized hood and carried the tumbled marble tile around the windows. It gives that entire side of the kitchen room to breathe and lets the natural light do its job.

The primary ensuite and walk-in closet are two pretty amazing spaces in this home.

In the ensuite, we incorporated Calacatta Gold marble in a herringbone pattern across the floor, carrying it right through to the freestanding tub. The dark rift-cut oak vanity grounds the space, while the brass faucets, lighting and cabinet hardware add warmth against all of that beautiful natural stone.

We carried the brass detailing into the walk-in closet with the hanging rods, hardware and lighting. A large centre island provides plenty of drawer storage, while the window seat and natural light make this feel like so much more than just a closet.

The lower level was designed to feel like a continuation of the rest of the home. As you come down the curved staircase, the wet bar is the first thing you see, finished in the same dark-stained rift-cut white oak we incorporated throughout the main floor, paired with a dark natural stone countertop, black tile, and warm brass details.

The rec room opens directly into the golf simulator, making this entire level a great space for entertaining.

For the basement bathroom, we went a little more masculine. Dark cabinetry, natural stone and warm brass are balanced with a lighter wall tile, while the darker floor tile picks up the veining in the countertop. A completely different feel from the main floor, but still connected to the home's overall palette.

The mudroom in this home connects directly to a large walk-through pantry, creating a really functional transition from the garage into the kitchen.

We incorporated an additional sink, an integrated dishwasher, a full-size freezer, and plenty of cabinetry for everyday storage. On the opposite wall, open shelving provides tons of room for food and pantry staples, with direct access straight into the kitchen.

It’s a hardworking space, but we still wanted it to feel like an extension of the rest of the home, with dark cabinetry, warm brass details, and natural stone countertops.

The laundry room in this home is positioned perfectly to take advantage of the beautiful south-facing light through the large windows.

Function was the priority here. Pullout drying racks, raised washer and dryer, plenty of countertop space and a sink were all key features our clients wanted incorporated into the design.

Across from the washer and dryer, we added a large linen closet with plenty of shelving, along with dedicated space to tuck away the ironing board and vacuum. Everything has a place, which is exactly how a hardworking laundry room should function.
