Well after moving to a new location and hibernating for the last two months, it's finally time to start things up again. I put this little child's chair together while I was getting the shop ready to run over the past couple of days.

Hi friends. Well I've been fighting one delay after another in the shop lately but I'm finally getting a handle on a custom order being shipped to Springhill, Nova Scotia. Solid oak plaques with printing on gold foil and plexiglas protective plate to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the town. I have done this type of plaque in the past usually as a memorial piece. I include a picture of the loved one being remembered as well as a verse to celebrate and remember their lives. Unfortunately they are a hard piece to photograph and the picture really doesn't do them justice.

Latest Pet Feeder design to come out of the shop. This one is suitable for medium to large dogs. Very solid construction with raised panels on three sides to keep anything from getting on the floor. Durable finish for easy cleaning.

Three piece cannister set. This is what I call a " Filler Project ". I hate to throw scraps away and eventually enough pieces pile up, and I get tired of looking at them, so I make something out of them. I fill my time while waiting for glue to set or finishes to dry by making things like this. I started these about two months ago and just finished them last night. Now all I have to do is find a buyer for them.

Pet Feeder and Bed Combo. The pet feeder is the same style as I did recently with 6" diameter bowls. The top of the bowls are about 3" from the floor making it a perfect height for smaller breed dogs. The bed is a new and original design. Constructed of clear pine with a rich Bombay Mahogany stain and two coats of clear. The dowels in the headboard and footboard were made in my shop. The mattress space size is 16" x 24" meaning a regular bed pillow can be used as a mattress. The height to top of the headboard is 17". I think I'd like to build one of these beds full size.

I hate to waste material and if you look at scrap pieces long enough, you'll figure out something to use them for. Such is the case with these tissue box covers. I'm working on a project that requires 1/4" Baltic Birch and I had a bunch of little pieces left over. Because it is only 1/4" thick it was ideal for these pieces. The only problem was that I had to mitre all the joints together so there were no raw plywood edges showing. These photos show the final results.

A lot of the pieces I design and build are made of Baltic Birch. Many people have asked me what Baltic Birch is so I have decided to take a few minutes to explain what it is and why I use it. Baltic Birch, also known as Russian Birch, is an extremely strong furniture grade plywood. The outer veneer is thicker than standard plywood and the core is made of layers of solid wood with no gaps, voids or holes. There are also more layers in the Baltic Birch than in regular plywood, up to twice as many. This in turn makes the Baltic Birch much stronger. For example, a piece of 1/2" Baltic is stronger than a piece of 3/4" standard birch plywood. The Baltic is also much more uniform in colour and takes finish much better. Baltic Birch is a little more expensive by well worth the cost.
