Early this morning, an unexpected nationwide power outage took multiple critical systems offline, including traffic lights in the capital city Gaborone, Landlines in the area were also down, while mobile and telecommunications networks were affected. Leading to no internet and cellphone service in major areas of Botswana.

Several parastatals, including water utilities, also warned that their call centres were not operating due to the BPC power outage.

This should be a wake-up call: not all of our critical infrastructure can depend on one power grid. We need proper backup systems for telecommunications, landlines and other essential services, especially those relied on during rescue and emergency situations.

Power outages happen. Our critical services still need to keep running. 🇧🇼

Batswana Betso, Please follow traffic rules even if the traffic robots stop operating due to the current power outage. Lack of functioning traffic lights does not mean you automatically have the right of way, it means that junction is now to be treasted as a stop sign junction, everyone who wrote the driving exam know how to drive in a situation like that, travel safe follow all Road rules and lets keep our roads safety

🇧🇼 Bots 60 Logo Challenge? Let’s Design Our Own ?

This video is NOT a criticism of the government or the current Bots 60 logo.

Actually, credit where it’s due the logo was designed by hardworking government employees, at no extra cost to the taxpayer. 👏🏾

But here’s the thing: government processes come with guidelines, approvals and a lot of bureaucracy. And that’s understandable.

But on social media? We don’t have to wait. 😂no red tape

So if you’re a graphic designer, creative, student, or just someone with an idea for what you think a better Bots 60 logo could look like DROP YOUR DESIGN! 🇧🇼🎨 lets the people pick with likes and comments

Let’s see what Botswana can come up with when we put creativity ahead of complaining.

If this gets enough attention and we get enough designs, we can take the most popular ones forward and see if there’s an opportunity to engage MPs and decision-makers.

But if all we do is criticise without creating anything, then nothing changes.

Here are Team aero highlights from yesterday's marathon ! 👏
First of all, congratulations to the organizers for putting together such a successful event. It was well organized, affordable (making it accessible even for students), and the central venue made it easy for everyone to attend. It was also great to see such a strong youth turnout! 🙌
A few suggestions that could make next year's event even better:
• 💧 Water points should be placed throughout the race, not just towards the finish.
• 🎽 Race pack distribution needs to be improved, as many registered runners didn't receive theirs.
• 🥇 Introduce race-specific medals so each distance has its own unique medal.

Overall, this was a fantastic event and a great step forward for road running. Looking forward to seeing it grow even bigger and better next year! 🏅🔥

The Local Organising Committee behind the World Athletics Relays Gaborone 2026 worked largely on a pro bono basis. Worked with little to no pay,

Professor Martin Mokgwathi, Chairperson of the LOC, explains that due to limited funding, the executive committee only received sitting allowances and did not take payment for the work they put in. Many of the staff were drawn from government institutions, the private sector, and volunteers, all contributing with minimal pay.

Yet despite these constraints, we delivered a world-class event right here in Gaborone 🇧🇼
