The Vanishing Vernacular
In a world racing toward urbanization, this project documents the endurance and the eventual decline of traditional mud architecture. While modern structures offer durability, the loss of these huts signifies a shift in our environment and a thinning connection to our roots. This isn't just about a building; it’s about a lifestyle that is being rewritten by the next generation.
The Mud Walls of Konda
The landscape of Konda, Bhangaon (Savar) is changing. As our population grows and the demand for "updated" concrete structures rises, the traditional mud huts—once the backbone of Bengali rural life—are rapidly disappearing.
These images capture a moment of transition. The weathered mud walls, built with local soil and traditional wisdom, represent a sustainable architecture that kept homes cool in the summer and warm in the winter. However, as seen in the deep cracks and the encroaching modern buildings in the background, this era of "living with the earth" is under threat.
