The biggest rural design mistakes usually happen before the floor plan even starts.

It is easy to begin with bedrooms, kitchens and Pinterest plans, but a rural home needs to respond to much more than the room list.

Where the house sits, how it faces, how vehicles reach it, where water moves across the land, how services connect and what the property may need in the future can all have a major impact on the design, comfort and cost of the build.

A well-designed home should work with the site rather than being dropped onto it.

That means understanding the land first, then developing the house around its opportunities and constraints.
