COLEDALE NO. 2 — IN PRINT

We're proud to share that Coledale No. 2 has been featured in alex ureña design studio — 20 Australian Homes, a newly released publication celebrating the work of our longtime collaborator, Alex Ureña Design Studio.

This project — alterations and additions at 7 Coledale Ave — was a genuine collaboration. Alex and the team brought a considered design vision; our role was to deliver it with the care it deserved. Seeing it recognised in print is a moment we're happy to share.

FOUNDATION SERIES | PROCESS CLARITY

Most build stress rarely starts on site.

It’s caused by a fragmented process.

When decisions are deferred, and teams work in silos, the gaps don’t disappear.

They show up later as rushed decisions on site, delays, and avoidable cost pressure.

A calmer build is rarely about having “perfect plans”. It’s about having a clear decision framework early, so design, budget and sequencing stay aligned as the project evolves.

If you’re in early design (or about to start), one simple question to ask is:
What decisions must be made now to protect the outcome later?

ARTICLE 02 - WHY EARLY DECISIONS IN A CUSTOM BUILD MATTER MORE THAN MOST PEOPLE EXPECT

When planning a custom home, it’s common to feel like you are being asked to lock things in too early.

Many clients assume detailed decisions can wait until construction is underway and things feel more tangible.

In reality, early decisions aren't there to rush you—they are there to protect your budget and timeline later.

We've written a new article explaining why "we'll sort it out later" rarely works, and why moving with clarity is the ultimate antidote to build stress.

A second site visit at Manyana — and a very different stage of the build.

What becomes clearer with each visit is how much of this work happens long before anything looks “finished”. Coordination, sequencing and shared understanding between the team is what allows a one-off home to take shape properly.

This project continues to evolve through careful collaboration — not shortcuts or repetition.

More to come as the build progresses.

MANYANA — Visit 1

A project that is deeply personal to us.

A coastal site shaped by bushfire controls, wind exposure and memory.

This first visit captures the structure taking form — geometry beginning to hold itself. What appears simple is not simple. Every angle has been considered against regulation, environment and longevity.

The spirit of this house is playful. It draws from a lineage of unconventional coastal holiday homes that invite exploration and curiosity — reinterpreted for contemporary Australian life.

At this stage, the focus is coordination.

Structure.
Weatherproofing.
Accuracy.

More to follow as we unfold this project in construction.

𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗮 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗼 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁.

This video just posted on YouTube (search ) offers a first look at a bespoke home in its early construction stage — where the real work is happening behind the scenes through coordination, problem-solving and teamwork.

At this point, it’s less about what you can see and more about how people work together: builders, trades, consultants and designers aligning long before finishes or final forms appear.

These early stages are often unseen, but they have a lasting impact on how a home comes together and how it feels once complete.

This is the first of several videos following this project as it progresses.

We’re also releasing deeper educational content for those interested in building — or simply understanding how thoughtful construction actually works.
