A closer look at a highly detailed restoration project recently completed in Darlinghurst.
This project involved the manufacture and installation of new curved-top, and bottom timber sashes into the existing box frames, with each new sash carefully made to match the original profiles.
The sashes were glazed with 8.5mm V-Lam Hush acoustic glass, fitted with new wax-coated traditional cotton sash cords and correctly balanced weights for smooth operation. We also carried out minor timber sill repairs and installed new timber beading with integrated draught and acoustic seals, along with new sash window hardware.
What you see on site is only part of the work.
Behind the scenes, there was a considerable amount of careful joinery, machining, glazing, preparation and coordination required to bring every component together accurately.
A project like this calls for patience, precision and a strong understanding of traditional sash windows. It is a great example of the craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into preserving original character while improving comfort, performance and usability.
