❓ Do I have to pay tax on my BIRST payout or claim? ❓

In most cases, yes - tax is applied to BIRST payouts or claims.

However, if the payment relates to a genuine redundancy, it may be treated differently for tax purposes.

Because everyone’s circumstances can be different, we recommend speaking with your accountant or tax adviser to understand how it applies to you.

❓ Can I make a claim if I haven’t left my job? ❓

No — claims can only be made once your employment with the contributing employer has ended.

As long as you’re still employed, your BIRST funds remain securely held in your account.

❓ How can I make a claim? ❓

If you’ve been made redundant or are planning to resign, the first step is to contact your employer to request a BIRST claim form.

Once completed, the form can be submitted via email, post, the BIRST app, or dropped off in person at our Greenhill Road office.

If it’s been some time since your employer last made a contribution, please give us a call on 𝟬𝟴 𝟴𝟯𝟳𝟯 𝟬𝟭𝟮𝟮. Our friendly team is always happy to talk through your options and help you decide the best next step.
