Gas Hot Water Safety Reminder from the Team at Cheapa Hot Water
During the week, the team at Cheapa Hot Water attended a customer’s property to inspect a gas hot water system issue.
While carrying out the job, we discovered something that definitely caught our attention — containers of flammable petrol stored right beside the gas hot water heater.
Gas appliances and flammable liquids are never a good combination, and it’s a timely reminder about the importance of keeping areas around gas hot water systems clear and safe at all times.
The funny part? The homeowner was actually a firefighter! Luckily for him, he didn’t end up having his own fire to fight.
While we all had a laugh about it afterwards, situations like this can become very dangerous if ignored. Gas hot water systems produce heat and ignition sources, which means petrol, paint thinners, fuel containers, and other flammable materials should always be stored well away from the unit.
At Cheapa Hot Water, we don’t just replace and repair hot water systems — we also keep an eye out for potential safety hazards to help protect our customers and their homes.
A few simple safety tips:
Never store petrol or fuel near gas appliances
Keep the area around your hot water system clear
Have older gas systems regularly checked and serviced
If you smell gas or notice any issues, contact a licensed professional immediately
If you have concerns about your gas hot water system or would like your current setup checked, feel free to contact the team at
