Choosing a new driveway gate? Here are a few things to consider.

CHOOSING A NEW DRIVEWAY GATE? HERE’S WHAT TO CONSIDER.

Before choosing a design, think about how you use your driveway and what you need your gate to do.

1. Space available
A sliding gate needs room to slide beside the driveway. A swing gate needs enough room to open without hitting vehicles or sloping ground.

2. Privacy
Vertical battens, horizontal slats and louvre designs offer different levels of privacy. Consider how much you want to see through the gate.

3. Style
Choose a design and colour that complement your home and existing fencing.

4. Material
Aluminium is a popular choice on the Sunshine Coast because it’s lightweight, termite resistant and requires minimal maintenance.

5. Automation
If you’d like an automated gate, consider this early. The gate design, weight and available space all affect which motor will be suitable.

CAN YOUR EXISTING GATE BE AUTOMATED?

In many cases, yes. You may not need to replace your entire gate to add automation.

Before installing a motor, we check that your existing gate is suitable for automation.

We look at:

Gate condition: The gate and frame need to be in good condition.

Movement: The gate should open and close smoothly without dragging or sticking.

Weight and size: The motor must be suitable for the gate.

Space and layout: There needs to be enough room for the motor and its components.

Safety: Appropriate safety devices need to be considered for the installation.

WHY HAS YOUR GATE MOTOR STOPPED WORKING?

If your automatic gate suddenly isn’t opening, there are a few things worth checking before assuming the motor has failed.

1. Power supply
A power interruption or electrical issue can stop the system from operating.

2. Flat or failing battery
Some gate systems rely on backup batteries, which can eventually need replacing.

3. Gate resistance
If the gate is dragging, sticking or becoming difficult to move manually, the motor may be working harder than it should.

4. Obstructions
Something caught in the track or around the gate can prevent it from operating correctly.

5. Safety sensors
Dirty, misaligned or obstructed safety beams can stop the gate from closing.

6. Remote or access control issues
Sometimes the motor is fine and the problem is with the remote, keypad or access system.

If your gate isn’t operating as it should, don’t keep forcing it. The problem may be with the gate itself rather than the motor.
