The back of a pantry isn't usually something you'd film.

But this one doesn't sit against a wall. It stands in the middle of an open-plan beach house, dividing the kitchen from the stairwell, so every face had to be finished — storage on one side, a clean plane on the other.

300mm deep, because that's what the room had to give. The broom cupboard next to it is 200mm wide.

And it's still going. Tape on the doors, no handles, film not even peeled off. The original kitchen is still working away while the new one goes in around it.

That's the part worth understanding about flatpack. Plan the whole thing once, build it in stages — ordering what the budget allows, installing on a weekend that suits, coming back when you're ready. Nobody moves out.

Planned online. Delivered flat. Assembled and installed by the owner.

One plan. Staged as you need.

We cut more than flatpack cabinetry.

Custom cutting is the part of Pack It Flat most people don't know about. If it's sheet-based and it can be drawn, we can cut it to size — machined to the same tolerance as a kitchen carcass.

A CNC router follows the drawing in front of it. It doesn't care whether the part ends up as a cabinet door, a formwork mould or a sign on a wall. Same sheet, same tooling, same tolerance.

Four jobs off the bed recently:

→ Curved concrete formwork. A bench and fire-pit surround that had to hold its radius. We took the supplied dimensions, produced CNC-ready drawings and machined the curved top and base components. We supplied the parts — the project team formed the concrete on site.

→ A glazed barn door for an office fitout at Federal Mills, Geelong. Drawn in Cabinet Vision, machined from 32mm MDF, with the glazing rebates cut in the same pass as the apertures. The glass drops straight in, no hand-fitting on site.

→ One of a matched pair of arched doors. The centre panel is V-grooved the full length, then the arch is machined across it, so every groove terminates clean on the curve. Its twin has to hold exactly the same radius.

→ Our own workshop sign. DXF artwork, 12mm black MDF, satin semi-gloss 2-pack. Off the bed clean in one pass.

What the machine takes: a full 3600 × 1800 sheet, and we've machined up to 50mm thick. Outside those numbers there are variables, so ask before you write your job off.

What's the one-off you've been told can't be cut?

Cath is a DIY renovator. She planned her job in the online system, then came into the Torquay factory to sit down and go through it before she ordered — and that combination is how most DIY jobs here actually run. Not one or the other. Both.

How it works:
→ Register and open the 3D Room Planner. Draw your room to your own measurements, drop cabinets in, move them around, choose your finish
→ Watch the price update live as you change things, so you can test a layout without waiting on a quote
→ Come in and put 37 years of cabinetmaking to work. Flip through the sample boards, hold the finishes up next to each other, see how a grain runs across a full door rather than a thumbnail
→ Ask the questions. Which finish marks. Which colour goes flat under LED. Where the corner should sit. What a few hundred kitchens has taught someone about the thing you are stuck on
→ Adjust the plan and order it when you are happy

Screens are excellent for layout and hopeless for colour. Samples in your hand solve in ten minutes what a week of scrolling will not.

Coming in is not a last resort for people who cannot work it out. Turning up with a half-finished plan and a list of questions is completely normal here.

We precision cut and supply it packed flat.

Built-in wardrobes in timber veneer — floor to ceiling, wall to wall, in a bedroom that was never going to take a standard robe.

The whole thing was planned online first. The 3D Room Planner in the Pack It Flat ordering system lets you draw the room to your own dimensions, drop cabinets in, move them, change finishes and see live pricing as you go. No quote to wait on, no back and forth, and no committing to a layout you have only seen as a list of cabinet codes.

Have this ready before you start planning:
→ Ceiling height at both ends of the run, not just the middle. Older houses can drop 20mm across three metres
→ Wall length measured at floor and at head height — they are often not the same
→ Hanging versus shelving decided section by section, because it sets your door widths
→ Skirting noted. Cabinets sit forward of it unless you scribe or notch the back
→ Hinged or sliding doors, worked out against where the bed sits

With those in hand the planner does the rest of the thinking. You adjust until the layout works on screen, then order it.

Every panel is machine cut, edged and drilled before it leaves the factory, so the pieces fit together like a puzzle and the carcasses pull up square. We precision cut and supply it packed flat. You or your trade to install.

Head to packitflat.com.au to register and start planning your room.

Is your bedroom getting hinged doors or sliders? That one answer changes almost everything else in the plan.

A whole wall of built-in shelving — planned online, cut to size in Torquay, and installed by the owner.

Floor-to-ceiling open shelving with a cupboard each side, finished in Outback Clay. Built to the wall it was going on rather than to whatever size the shelving aisle happens to stock.

How it came together:
→ Planned in the 3D Room Planner inside the Pack It Flat online ordering system — the room drawn to size, cabinets dropped in and moved around until the layout worked
→ Their sizes, their finish, chosen from the full range
→ Precision cut to spec and supplied as a custom flatpack
→ Assembled and installed on site by the owner

The part people talk themselves out of is the accuracy. That is the part you do not have to solve. Every panel is machine cut, edged and drilled before it leaves the factory, so the pieces fit together like a puzzle and the carcasses pull up square.

Built-ins like this get put off for years because they look like they need a workshop behind them. What they actually need is the right sizes going into the order — and the room planner is where that gets sorted before anything is cut.

We precision cut and supply it packed flat. You or your trade to install.

Custom cutting for curves, arches and one-off components — cut to size in Torquay and supplied flat across Victoria.

Most people find us for kitchens, wardrobes and laundries. What gets missed is that the same machine cuts anything you can draw, and it does not much matter how you draw it.

Send us the design in whatever form it exists:
→ Cabinet Vision file
→ Mozaik file
→ DXF
→ A dimensioned drawing or CAD export
→ A photo of a hand sketch with measurements on it

If you are already drawing in your own software, the file goes straight to the machine — no re-entering data, no translation errors, no version of your design getting lost in the middle. If you have never opened a design program in your life, dimensions on paper will do.

What comes through the door:
→ Arched door and end panels
→ Round and radius table tops
→ Curved bulkheads and bar fronts
→ Bench and sink cut-outs
→ One-off shelves for rooms that are not square
→ Feature panels, splashback shapes, timber wall art

There is no minimum. You do not have to be ordering a full kitchen to get one curved panel cut properly. Plenty of what comes through is a single component someone could not source anywhere else — a replacement panel in a discontinued profile, or a shape a router and a steady hand were never going to hold to a millimetre.

If you are wondering whether your shape is too far outside the square, the custom projects page on packitflat.com.au is worth a look. Most of what is on it started as someone asking exactly that.

We precision cut and supply it packed flat. You or your trade to install.

What is the shape you have been putting off because you could not work out who would cut it?

Pack It Flat runs on 37 years of architectural joinery. That experience is usually why a job goes smoothly before a single panel is cut.

So it has been written down. The Planning guides cover the decisions made before you start adding cabinets — layout and the working triangle, internal fit-out, depths and clearances, weatherproofing an alfresco build, and the deliberate empty spaces nobody plans for.

Six guides live now. Gaps & Margins and Benchtops are coming.

What is the one thing you wish you had known before you started your kitchen?

25/08/2026

A single custom door — two and a half metres tall — cut to a customer's own drawing.

Not every job fits a standard size. This one came to us as a drawing: 2350 × 1500 × 32mm, in raw moisture-resistant MDF, with a V-groove panel across the full face. We drew it up in Cabinet Vision, machined it on the Biesse Rover, and cut the panel in a single pass — the real work at that size is keeping a sheet that big dead flat and square.

We manufacture and supply the door. The finish and the fit are yours, or your builder's.

That's the part a lot of people don't realise — if you can draw it, or even just give us the dimensions, we can cut it. Doors, one-offs, odd shapes, bespoke components.

Got something custom in mind? Give us a call on 03 5261 8880 or email [email protected] and we'll take it from there.

What would you have us cut? Tell us in the comments.

The back of a pantry isn't usually something you'd photograph.

But this one doesn't sit against a wall. It stands in the middle of an open-plan beach house, dividing the kitchen from the stairwell — so every face had to be finished. Storage on one side, a clean plane on the other.

It's 300mm deep. Not because shallow is fashionable, but because that's what the room had to give. The broom cupboard next to it is 200mm wide, which is a size you simply cannot buy off a shelf.

And it's still going. Tape on the doors, no handles yet, protective film not even peeled off. The original kitchen is still working away while the new one goes in around it.

That's the part worth understanding about flatpack. You plan the whole thing once, then build it in stages — ordering what the budget allows now, installing on a weekend that suits you, coming back for the next stage when you're ready. Nobody moves out. Nobody lives on takeaway for six weeks.
