One year in the electrical trade is a big milestone. It takes dedication, humility, and a strong work ethic to show up day after day, learn the craft, and put in the effort to do things the right way.

Andrew has grown tremendously over the past year. From job site to job site, he continues to sharpen his skills, take initiative, and represent Voltage Virtues with professionalism and integrity.

We believe in building electricians the traditional way , through hands on experience, accountability, and pride in workmanship. Andrew has embraced that process, and we’re proud to have him on our team.

Hi, I'm Alonzo Contreras, owner of Voltage Virtues. I'm a Texas born and raised electrician, a husband, and a proud dad to two boys, ages four and fourteen. My wife and I have been together for nearly ten years, and our kids have been raised right here in Midland. Family and community are at the center of everything I do, and that carries directly into how I treat my work and the people I serve.

When I'm not working, you'll usually find me spending time with my boys, whether that's cheering on my four year old at soccer or basketball, or teaching my fourteen year old the electrical trade after he told me he wants to follow in my footsteps. I love being present for those moments and helping them build confidence, work ethic, and pride in what they do.

Our family also enjoys being involved in the Midland community. We love visiting the local farmers market, catching comedy shows at Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center, and heading to Cinergy to watch movies and play games together. Those moments remind me why building strong community relationships matters so much.

Outdoors, I'm happiest just being active with my kids. Whether we're throwing a ball around, going to the park, or simply enjoying time outside together, those simple moments mean everything to me.

My wife and I also enjoy supporting local restaurants. We don't stick to just one favorite spot, we actually enjoy trying new local restaurants whenever one opens. It's something we love doing together, experiencing new foods and supporting local businesses in our city.

I fully committed to Voltage Virtues when I realized I could provide more than I was being allowed to in previous roles. More care. More safety. More pride in the work. I knew I wanted to raise the standard instead of being limited by it. I also saw a real gap in quality and competence within the electrical field locally. That pushed me to step forward, not just to meet demand, but to serve my community with honest work and education.

People deserve to understand their electrical systems and feel confident about who they allow into their homes. Electrical work affects safety, comfort, and peace of mind. That is why Voltage Virtues focuses on clear communication, fair pricing, and work that is completed correctly and up to code. We believe trust is built by showing up, doing what you say you will do, and standing by your work, especially when challenges arise.

One moment that continues to stay with me was helping a family after a tree fell onto their electrical service. They were without power, overwhelmed, and the repair costs were more than they could handle at the time. We worked out a payment plan so they could restore power safely without adding financial stress. Moments like that remind me why this work matters.

My goal is to grow Voltage Virtues into a trusted local company that families feel comfortable calling, while creating long-term stability and opportunity for my children. I also want to help strengthen the electrical trade by teaching others, leading by example, and raising the bar within our community.

🔥 Another issue caught before it turned into a bigger problem 🔥

This pizza warmer was cycling on and off, which is never something to ignore. After inspection, we found clear signs of overheating at the plug and receptacle worn contacts and heat damage that can lead to equipment failure or even fire hazards if left alone.

✅ Replaced the damaged plug and receptacle
✅ Restored proper, consistent operation
✅ Pizza warmer is back to working safely and reliably

This is why unusual equipment behavior should never be ignored. Small electrical issues can turn into big ones fast, especially in commercial kitchens where equipment runs nonstop.

A dark, hard to use closet can completely change with the right lighting.

For this project, we installed a new wall switch and two 4-inch, color-selectable LED recessed lights. The space went from dim and inconvenient to bright, clean, and functional. Being able to choose the light color makes a big difference depending on the space and personal preference.

This is a great example of how small electrical upgrades can have a big impact on everyday living. Proper lighting improves visibility, safety, and overall comfort when it’s done correctly and to code.

All work completed by a licensed Master Electrician.
