Called out to a strata building for a light that kept tripping. Pulled the fitting down and found it full of water

Water getting into light fittings is one of the more common faults we find in apartment blocks. Usually it’s a failed seal or something leaking from above, and it keeps tripping the circuit until someone actually looks at it.

If you manage a building and something keeps tripping with no obvious cause, this is often why.

Full house lighting upgrade in Quakers Hill 💡

Two storey, every room. LED downlights throughout, ceiling fans, outdoor wall lights, up and down lights across the facade, and pendants, linear pendants and chandeliers through the living and dining.

The good part about doing a whole house at once is nothing gets left mismatched. Same colour temperature room to room, feature fittings chosen to suit the space they’re in, and the ground floor done properly with no roof cavity to work from.

Did a whole home safety inspection on a tenanted property this week. Nothing was tripping, nothing was buzzing, no complaints from the tenants.

What we found:

⚡ Smoke alarm years past its expiry date
⚡ Final sub circuits with no RCD protection
⚡ No isolation switch on the cooktop

None of it was causing a problem that day. That’s the whole point — this stuff sits quietly until the day it matters, and by then it’s too late to have been proactive about it.

⚠️ A serious hazard found today — an exposed main active cable at the back of a switchboard.

Thankfully, we found it, repaired the cable and made the switchboard safe.

A reminder to never touch exposed wiring or remove switchboard covers. If something doesn’t look right, keep clear and call a licensed electrician.

5 year old home… and this RCBO had already melted 🔥

Found this one during a callout in Castle Crag, a Clipsal RCBO that had overheated and started melting away inside the switchboard. On a house this new, that’s not something you want to see.

Swapped it out for a Hager unit and got everything back to safe and working.

Faults like this are exactly why it pays to get things checked when something doesn’t seem right, a tripping circuit, a buzzing board, or a faint burning
