Welcome to October, the 2nd month of Spring ☀️

Camden Mowing loves creating beautiful spaces.
We're also passionate about mowing and gardening and will share tips on the 1st of every month to help you in the lawn and garden.

For your lawn;
💚 We have good rain forecast for Saturday, it's the perfect time to get some fertiliser onto your lawn before the weekend if you can.
💧 September was very dry (6mm of rain) unlike August (53mm). It's easy to forget to water your lawn when we get spoilt with good regular rainfall. Get your lawn into good health now before the hot summer weather arrives.
🌿Hopefully by this time you've resolved any w**ds growing in your lawn, if you have now is a great time to fertilise your lawn and water it in, if you haven't, check out Bunnings or Ace Ohlsson for various product options otherwise the hotter weather and regular mowing will eventually see the end of the w**ds anyway.
🐞 It’s the ideal time to renovate your lawn if it needs it. Top dress low spot areas to get the ground more level. If you ground is very hard and compact, perhaps a good aeration.

In the garden;
🌈 Everything is looking great at the moment. Fresh new growth on everything, things budding and flowering. It's a beautiful time of the year
🐝With all the new flowers out don't interrupt bees doing their pollinating work.
🐝A good tip if you are getting into some heavy gardening - from a distance use your rake, broom or a blower if you have one and stir up the hedge or plants before you dive in and see if anything comes out.
😎 Enjoy being out in your garden for longer each day when the clock goes forward this weekend.

✨ Lawn & Garden Tips ✨

Welcome to September, the first month of Spring ☀️

What a special day on the calendar and the beginning of a beautiful time of the year.

Camden Mowing loves creating beautiful spaces.
We're also passionate about mowing and gardening and will share tips on the 1st of every month to help you in the lawn and garden.

For your lawn;

💦 The final month of winter was a contrast to the first 2 months of winter. June 15mm rain, July 13mm rain, August 53mm of rain. The rainfall is welcome but you may have noticed the w**ds in the lawn and garden are taking off as a result.🍃 When it comes to w**ds in your lawn you have options. Spray while the w**ds are out in between mows, mow it in while catching, mow it in without catching or hand w**d. One solution may be more practical than the other. It’s not easy mowing clover, it’s chewy, wet and clogs your mower. It needs good equipment and good technique to deal with this.
🪏 If you are interested in filling in some low spots and top dressing your lawn, spring time is a great time of year to do it. Give your lawn a cut back and away you go. A good fertilise and watering will kick start your lawn for the season.💪 We did our clients lawn fertilising in August with the rainfall that was on offer, for yourselves anytime we get some rain now getting some organic matter or fertiliser into the ground will set up your lawn for the stresses of summer it will endure.
🚜 I saw in a mower shop this week there's 5 day lead times already for the workshop. Don't get caught out and get your lawn mowing equipment looked at if you need to before it gets any busier.
🙏 Looking at the northern hemisphere during their summer it's been very hot and dry conditions, I'm hoping it's not an indicator of our summer ahead, I suggest you use spring time to get in early and prepare your lawn and garden by getting everything as lush and healthy as possible.

In the garden;

🌸 Things are budding and starting to flower now. Spring is such a lovely time of year.
🪏 Now is a good time to mulch your gardens. It slows down the growth of w**ds, helps moisture retention for your plants for summer reducing water usage and freshens the look of your garden.
💦 A splash of liquid tonic like seasol will give your plants a boost to their spring flourish.
💪 Like your lawn, some organic food for your plants will help set them up for the summer conditions ahead.
🦅 It’s magpie season. Keeps your eyes peeled. 👀

Welcome to August, the last month of Winter.

Camden Mowing loves creating beautiful spaces.
We're also passionate about mowing and gardening and will share tips on the 1st of every month to help you in the lawn and garden.

For your lawn;
👋 I wasn't in Sydney for much of July so my knowledge of the weather is from what the staff told me, what you see on the weather apps and judging the lawn condition now. It appears that w**ds have had a late start in lawns this cold season. With the relatively warm winter so far lawns are in great shape for this time of year (other than some buffalo lawns exposed to open air). W**ds are advancing now though and should be dealt with sooner than later if haven't been already.
🎋 If you can't or wont do anything about w**ds in particular clover your in your lawn, it's not all evil, clover with it's dark green leaves acts as a natural fertiliser so mowing it in is an option, not ideal but possible if not addressing w**ds in your lawn.
😎 I don't have a crystal ball when it comes knowing what the weather will do but the warm winter we are having it makes you wonder what are spring and summer are going to be like? Hopefully not super hot and dry. It's reason to get your lawn into good shape during spring by dealing with w**ds, fertilising earlier and catch the early growth before the bite of summer sets in and your lawn is in its best condition before summer.
🌡️ The average low temperature in July 2025 was 2.1 degrees and the average high 17.9. The average low in July this year was 4 degrees and average high 18.5. Doesn't sound like much but 2 degrees difference for the low average is a fair difference. The overnight temps only really dropped in the last week of July when the wind started blowing from the south west. The other thing that sticks out is that July this year only 2 days below 0 in Camden whereas July 2025 8 days below 0, more reason why the lawns are looking less knocked around at the moment for this time of year.
⛑️ If you haven't already carry out some maintenance on your lawn mower or book it into your local mower shop before they get busy.
📈 Your lawn has had to endure the strains of handling the cold weather the past 2 months so get prepared to feed it up as the warm weather approaches.

In the garden;
🔨 As lawn and garden contractors August is our last month before the workload kicks off, therefore it's our last month to get any finishing touches that develops your momentum for the busy season ahead which you don't have time for in the busy season - for example winter pruning, mulching, prepare for spring plantings, equipment maintenance and preparation.
🚑 The same can be equal on a smaller scale for the residential home environment - get all these types of tasks in order now before you feel like you are glued to the handlebars of your mower or hedger in the warmer months.
💗 Spring time is a great time to fertilise your plants so add fertiliser and liquid tonics to your shopping list this month so you have it handy when the weather warms up.

Welcome to July, the second month of Winter ☃️

For your lawn;
🌞 June saw quite warm conditions and bits of timely rainfall. Lawns are looking quite green and lush for this time of year. This means w**ds may well thrive also over the coming months if you don’t act upon them early. W**d, spray or mow them back in.
🍀 Clover is not all evil. It is a natural nitrogen fertiliser, so if you do mow back in yes you are spreading the seed but for less glamorous grass areas it’s not all bad news. If you are going to mow w**ds back in ensure to use your catcher.
🚿 An application of seasol on a regular basis year round does wonders for your lawn and plants. For the lawn it helps hold its colour especially when in combination with a year round lawn fertilising plan
🌵The ground is pretty wet at the moment, no need for over watering of your lawn unless the soil is really sandy. Let your lawn build some water resilience. Deeper watering less often. A lawn with wet feet for too long can lead to fungus, black spot, encourage grubs and just general ill health.

In the garden;
✂️ Time for any winter prune backs - crepe myrtle's, roses, trees or bushes. Winter time is your preparation season. You do all the little detailed things you don't get time to do during the busy season. Build momentum into your garden so that you’re ahead of the curve for the busy warmer months.
🪣 Mulching is a great activity this time of year. Lawns tend to be the focus and the hero in the warmer months. Let your garden have some of the limelight and put out some fresh mulch to brighten up your garden spaces. It not only makes your garden look good but will slow the w**ds down as well.
🌹Check out the website and social media for Tim's Garden Centre, Flower Power or Better Homes and Gardens. They have lots of great detailed content for what to do in and around your garden all year around, and they can sell you the stuff you may need also!
🥶 As we head into the middle of winter this month give consideration to some of your more sensitive plants in the garden with a protective cover overnight. Be considerate of plantings at this time of year.
🔥 Enjoy your garden at night with a warm outdoor fire and some marshmallows. Further light up your yard with some cheap and effective solar lights💡
🚙 School holidays are this month, take a drive and check out some snow when it falls.

Welcome to June, the first month of Winter ☃️

For your lawn;
❄️ Okay campers, it’s not Groundhog Day but here comes 3 months of winter. With good rainfall in May no need for watering at the moment.
💪 They say a summer body is built in winter, same can be true for a lawn. There’s always something you can do or not do to improve or sustain your lawns condition in winter.
☺️ If you have lawn envy of a lawn near your house, talk to the resident, give them a compliment, they may give you some lawn tips. Chances are their soil and conditions may be similar to your home.
🌼 Minimise 2 and 4 legged foot traffic on your lawn to prevent its condition going backwards during the cooler months.
🙅‍♂️ While we love getting under a blanket in winter, your lawn doesn’t. Use a combination of your mower, blower or rake to keep leaves off your lawn. Daylight hours are at their shortest of the year in June. Lawns need as much sunlight as they can get.

In the garden;
🥱 Does some of your lawn always go bad over winter? Like to reduce your mowing? Sometimes you have to pick your battles. Are you better off converting that bit of lawn into a garden? Food for thought.
🍁 Tick a lot of boxes with a simple action. Pick up fallen leaves and put them in your garden… tidies your yard, smothers w**ds in the garden, retains moisture for your plants, saves council energy, good for the environment, good exercise, family activity, looks good and saves buying mulch. How many more reasons do you need? ✅
🥵 Summer season growth hangover? Mowing and garden contractors have more time now to help you with anything that got away from you in the garden during the warmer months.
🪴Check out and support your local nursery. It’s nice to plant some winter flowering plants or vegetables to add life, colour and food to your garden.
✂️ Winter time is a good time to check and service all your lawn and garden equipment when they are being used less. Get your pruning tools ready now for any of your winter prune backs.

Welcome to May, the last month of autumn

Camden Mowing loves creating beautiful spaces.

We're also passionate about mowing and gardening and will share tips on the 1st of every month to help you in the lawn and garden.

For your lawn;

💧April was a very dry and sunny month. We haven’t had any notable rain for over 4 weeks now. Even though your lawn needs less water in the cooler months if we don’t get good regular rain your lawn will still want some water from time to time. We’ve been lucky we have been piggybacking off lots of rainfall in Jan, Feb and Mar.
🌿You may start noticing w**ds in your lawn now. There are sprays you can apply either before w**ds arrive or after to treat these otherwise your easiest but not ideal option is to mow them back in or else use the Elle Woods technique and bend and snap them out manually.
🍂Marge, the leaves are here!! Leaves are beginning to drop now. As nice as leaves in nature are, leaves on your lawn are like a wet blanket and will set your lawn back if not picked up, chinese elm leaves are the worst, they just don’t want to move!
🎤 Last and final call for organic fertiliser application for your lawn for the season to help hold it’s colour for the winter

In the garden;

💧Like your lawn, we haven’t had decent rain for a while now, don’t forget your plants still need some water during the cooler months
🌹 Have a look for nice flowers in your garden. I'm sure mum would love something from your own garden for Mother's Day
🍃 Autumn is a beautiful time with the changing colours of the trees. Pause and take in the beauty of the falling colourful leaves.
🍁In the cooler months the focus moves away from mowing and into the gardens. The cooler months are your garden preparation months for the warmer months.
🍆If you’re a veggie grower, the change of season is a good time to plant your next lot of winter edibles in your garden.
💪Similar to the lawn, a final feed up of organics for your garden plants will keep their nutrients topped up during winter.

From the hospital bed;

🚑 I prefer to make things about others but on a personal level for a moment, after developing momentum in the lawns and gardens that we manage over the last 2 months, I’ve had to do some much needed maintenance on my body yesterday in order to continue creating beautiful spaces for our valued clients moving forward. I want to say thank you to the Camden Mowing team for looking after all the properties that we manage while I am parked up recovering. I look forward to getting back out there on the tools before spring and taking care of our clients 🌞🤜

Welcome to April, the second month of Autumn

Camden Mowing loves creating beautiful spaces.
We're also passionate about mowing and gardening and will share tips on the 1st of every month to help you in the lawn and garden.

For your lawn;
💪 You haven't had to do a lot lately other than mow, mow, mow to look like a world be**er in the lawn condition stakes. We've had such good conditions the last few months. With good and timely mowing, lawns are looking green and lush for this time of the year.
⚖️ Autumn can definitely give you a taste of warm and cold seasons. We saw a 33 degree max day in March and a 17 degree day with snow falling within 3 hour drive of our area. Comparing to the last 3 years, we've had 50% of the total yearly rainfall in the first 3 months! Add in the heat and humidity, no wonder everything has been growing like crazy lately.
🤫 The grass should slow up shortly though, choose your mowing height carefully, don't go cutting it too short especially if your lawn sees less sun and more shade in the cooler months.
🥳 Surprisingly I haven't seen that much damage to lawns from grubs this year despite the perfect conditions for them, perhaps they all got flooded out or everybody is treating for them.
🐐Fuel saving tip in the lawn mowing space that comes to mind given how fast the grass has been growing and the cost of fuel at the moment - perhaps call in the goats!

In the garden;
🌳 Everything is growing like they are on supplements lately and with the fuel price situation one way to reduce your fuel spend in the garden maintenance stakes especially if you have large areas to maintain is to apply foliar growth retardants to your plants. These will slow down the growth of your plants reducing the need for trimming. Alternatively, check out your local power equipment store and see their ever improving electric range of equipment.
🧐 Like your lawn, carefully consider how you trim your hedges now. Things will/should (fingers crossed) start to slow down soon and if you do any heavy cutbacks you could be looking at it this way for a while. If things have crept out on you, you may opt for a light trim now and a heavy cutback at the start of spring.
🪻Plant something purple. It’s a beautiful colour and there so many nice purple plants all year round — lavender, jacaranda, iris, hydrangea, society garlic, agapanthus, petunias, wisteria and at the moment salvias and tibouchinas are beautiful.
🌞 April is not only a nice name but a great month of the year for planting. The soil is still warm, plants can take before things get too cool, the heat of the summer is gone and you don't have to keep as much water up to things to get them started. For some nice added winter colour get planting now.
🪏Check you’ve got all your winter gardening artillery in supply ready to go. Secateurs, branch pruners/loppers, gloves, rakes, blower, vacuum, wheelbarrow, shovel, mattock, chainsaw and winter yard workwear to name a few depending on your yard requirements.
🐣 Prepare your garden for the kids for the annual Easter egg hunt.
🌱 Lastly, Rosemary is great in cooking and also a symbol of remembrance for Anzac Day this month if you have some in your garden.

✨Lawn & Garden Tips ✨

Welcome to March, the first month of autumn

Camden Mowing loves creating beautiful spaces.
We're also passionate about mowing and gardening and will share tips on the 1st of every month to help you in the lawn and garden.

For your lawn;
🪻 What a tale of 2 halves the summer season has been. Dec/1st half of Jan hot and dry, 2nd half Jan/Feb humid and wet. Feb 25 - 8 days of 80% and above relatively humidity at 9am, Feb 26 - 14 days of 80% and above at 9am. Half of the days in Feb it was muggy at 9am! With heat, humidity and rain all the ingredients have been there for lawns, hedges, w**ds, everything to grow.
🚿 Although your lawn is probably nice and green at the moment from all the rain, the soil can be leached of goodness. It's still a good idea to give some trace element fertiliser to your lawn even if it's green to feed it longer term into the cooler months to help hold it's colour - i like dynamic lifter myself.
🌹 I'd normally tell you to keep your mowing height up now and don't go cutting the lawn too short to allow it to thicken up a bit before the cooler weather arrives and the growth rate begins to slow but who knows with the weather.
🐞I have seen some lawns not looking the way they should and this has been due to grubs. They are at their maturity and with all these moist conditions, they are loving life right now. If you lawn looks discoloured or roots looks thin/unsettled and had no unusual heavy foot traffic, a good dose of grub killer prior to some rain will stop your lawn further deteriorating.

In the garden;
🎅 Hedges have been growing like crazy. With all the ingredients of heat, humidity and rain keep on top of your hedges so they don't creep out over your garden edges, driveways, verandahs, they can be sneaky and really get away on you quickly if your not looking.
🐀If only David Copperfield could make the w**ds disappear at the moment. It's always good to have your garden areas mulched, if not for aesthetics then to slow the w**ds from appearing.
🌹The mower in due course will be able to do an interchange and it'll be time to get out the winter artillery like rake, blower, secateurs and gloves.
🌹Not exactly a garden tip.. Let the change of season be a metaphor for a renewed perspective in your life. Summer is hot, the days are long and the new year is often busy. Autumn is about the temperature cooling down, days getting shorter and the nights getting longer. Like the environment, try and cool down and slow down in your life. Take time and reflect in your garden and enjoy what the change of season gives you in your own garden or any nice garden that you see.
