Introducing // Flares & Fuzz // Avalon

A mid-century home reimagined in Avalon, adapted for a new chapter.

Now heavily stripped, we’ve kept that original character of the house as the starting point with the design focused on opening up, improving connection to the landscape and adding new layers without losing what made the existing home special.

Also, apparently this is now a series where architects talk about houses from their cars…

More to come as Flares & Fuzz takes shape.

DRIFTWOOD | DA APPROVED

Development Approval secured for Driftwood, our luxury apartment development in the secluded enclave of Little Manly.

Shaped by its coastal setting, with a focus on privacy, natural light, landscape and enduring materiality. Three considered luxury homes are woven into the site to create a quiet architectural response to one of Manly’s most distinctive and desirable locations.

A major milestone for the project.

Site Update // Punto di Vista is continuing to take shape.

With the tn made. crew progressing well on site we have tiling, timber work, plastering and some facade details continuing. Now finishes are being installed the spaces are starting to come together.
Looking forward to sharing more as we move closer to completion.

Site Update// Casaballin 2.0
Been a minute. Few shots along the way as more pieces of the puzzle come together. Hand wrought copper, joinery detailing with a nod to the existing, Fireplace sundries and odds and ends.

Every project starts with a sketch.

These early drawings from Sasso Nero explore ideas that carried through to the finished home, from curved walls and custom joinery to the way light enters a space.

The sketches themselves are rough. Their job is simply to test ideas and move the design forward.

Looking back, what’s interesting isn’t how closely the final spaces match the drawings, but how many of the original ideas remained intact.

Little Birch has been awarded in the 2026 Architizer A+Awards with a Special Mention for Architecture + Craft.

Designed for a young family, the home explores how restraint, materiality and detail can shape a sense of calm within a compact urban setting.

Rather than relying on excess, the project focuses on texture, light, junctions and carefully framed moments where concrete, timber and landscape work together to create an atmosphere of quiet permanence and domestic ease.

Grateful to the clients, collaborators and craftspeople involved.

Cùl House// A quick look through the early schematic design thinking behind a new coastal project currently taking shape.

From the outset, the site presented both opportunity and constraint. Dramatic views, significant exposure, and a landscape that quickly became the primary driver of the design response.

Early sketches remain some of our favourite parts of the process — testing ideas, refining relationships to site, and beginning to understand how a project wants to sit within its environment.

Still early days, but this one is already being shaped heavily by the landscape.

Sasso Nero

The kitchen is designed as one of the quieter spaces within the home, anchored by a restrained palette of smoked oak, marble and aged brass.

Here the focus was placed on texture, shadow and material depth, allowing the space anchor the room as a base for soft furnishings to take prominence.

Details were intentionally resolved at a finer scale here. Tapered stone edges, recessed shadowlines , and aged metal accents work together to create a functional, tactile and enduring atmosphere for everyday living.

Sasso Nero

This home was driven by a simple question from the outset: how do you create a sense of calm and openness on a site that is naturally constrained and heavily shaped by its surroundings?

Rather than pushing everything outward, we worked with compression and release. Some spaces are deliberately tighter and more grounded, allowing others to open fully to light, garden and sky.

Framed garden connections became central to that idea. Not as a visual gesture, but as a way of pulling everyday living into the landscape, so the home feels constantly connected to what sits beyond it.

Material choices do a lot of the quiet work. Smoked oak, marble, aged brass and hand-finished surfaces were used not as decoration, but to soften the architecture and bring warmth to the interiors as they shift through light during the day.

A pool and garden setting extends this thinking further, giving the house a second rhythm outside, slower, quieter, more reflective.
