Landsberg Garden Design We are place makers, creating gardens that transform, delight, and heal, in harmony with nature. Relationships are critical for us.

Established in 2006, the practice works from Sydney with both private and corporate clients. Our gardens foster enlivening relationships - between people, the earth and each other. These are places where you will find yourself. The gardens we create are places of beauty and joy, an almost inevitable expression of the site fulfilling all needs.

Staggered lines of rammed earth walls were designed to reflect the cliffs all around the resort.

The arrival is intimate. The rammed earth walls are a feature of continuity and cohesion across the whole resort.

Generous planting on the slope behind provides a rich, green framing of the entrance.

Huge, hand-thrown vessels reflect the texture and scale of the environment, bring in echoes of water flow and allow architectural planting to enrich and enliven the arrival experience.

The garden beds are extended and filled with beautiful, architectural plants.

Large boulders and rocks from the site are used to anchor the planting.

The Landsberg team visited the Australian Botanic Garden Mt Annan for a tour of their current science and research facilities and to be briefed on the vision for the new Nature Restoration Nursery.

It was inspiring to spend the morning with the Director of Horticulture and Living Collections for the Botanic Gardens, John Siemon, who led the tour, along with Richard Unsworth of Garden Life, who is supporting the efforts to raise awareness and funding for this vital facility.

We learnt about the vision for the Nursery, the science behind the work, and the impact it will have on conservation and restoration across Australia.

The Nursery is a ‘hospital’ for plants across Australia - servicing as an emergency support in post-environmental crisis scenarios, nursing threatened species back to stable numbers, and using stored seed banks to repopulate wild ecosystems. Without this backup, and in the face of increasing environmental threats such as bushfire, diseases such as Myrtle rust, and Australia's soaring rate of deforestation, our landscapes need this insurance to ensure our children will see these species for generations to come.

Visit the link on our website to learn more about the Nature Restoration Nursery and ways to support.

We were able to visit the Australian PlantBank and enjoy an afternoon in the sun exploring the displays and fabulous gardens.

In the Wolgan Valley, our work is not about building gardens but about helping a landscape return to itself; rebuilding the natural beauty, the paradise of plants, water, flowers and trees naturally at home in the Valley.

Landscape design is usually about placemaking. Here, the Valley is already powerful. Our role is to support it, working as conservationists as much as designers, rebuilding the ecologies of the Blue Gum Forest, Grassy Woodlands, Meadows and Heathlands, working with endemic plant species and an understanding of the land.

As the land is healed, everything within it settles, breathes easy and lives well.

The Alhambra, the ancient royal city of palaces and fortress, high on the hillside above Granada, facing the snowy Sierra Nevada mountains, has been a place I have wanted to visit since I started to study garden design several decades ago.

The gardens of the Generalife (generally translated to mean the ‘Garden of the Architect', though the name could also be translated as 'Garden of Paradise') are where the Nasrid sultans and then the kings and queens rested and strolled in private in the shade of the trees, by the water and among the roses. The gardens are very beautiful today, but I wonder at what stage and in what of their many forms over the last 700 plus years were they at their most beautiful and harmonious?

Scale. Texture. Vessel.

Hand-made Atelier Vierkant pots are the only vessels being introduced to the landscape around the Wolgan Valley resort. These beautiful, remarkable pieces are hand-crafted to combine human artistry and nature. The bold scale and earthy colours and textures of the pots harmonise with the great, rising cliffs and flow of the sweeping valley.
