The courtyard house is the realisation of alterations and additions to an existing brick federation residence in Belmore. The client’s brief was to achieve a design that highlighted the established character of the existing house whilst creating an open and light filled contemporary living addition. The rear addition is connected to the existing house through a glass link that steps down into an open plan living space, surrounding a sunken courtyard and opening on to the back garden. The courtyard entertaining area creates a sense of seclusion and private domestic living whilst maximising the level of natural light flowing into the living spaces.

Studio Haptic's first built project. The house at Longreef on the Northern Beaches was about maximising the views and outlook to the ocean and golf course opposite the site. The clients wanted to create a seaside home that draws on the tradition and vernacular of beach cottage houses in the area. Timber weatherboards, detailed window and door details, and filigree timber trim and balustrade details combine to evoke this Australian beach cottage feel. Construction was completed early 2012.
