Like something straight out of a futuristic skyline, the ARCH designed rooftop helipad at Cairns Hospital is set to elevate emergency response for Far North Queensland.

Congratulations to the CPB Contractors and Hansen Yuncken joint venture, as well as Health Infrastructure Queensland (HIQ), on the official Stage 2 contract award. Representing a $1b+ investment that will generate thousands of local construction jobs, this expansion marks a major leap forward for regional healthcare.

With early works underway, the Cairns Hospital rooftop helipad is scheduled to be operational in 2027. The cyclone-rated rooftop helipad will improve access, safety, privacy and resilience, enabling reliable aeromedical transfers during severe weather events.

We are proud to collaborate with the precinct design team to bring this vital project to life and shape the future of FNQ health infrastructure!

What does the future of Australia’s community pools look like? We're diving into the answer at the National Aquatic Infrastructure Symposium, organised by Royal Life Saving Australia!

Held in Adelaide on 7-8 October, the Symposium will combine a behind-the-scenes look at Adelaide’s changing aquatic landscape with a national working forum focused on the future of Australia’s public aquatic infrastructure.

With the grand opening rapidly approaching, the Payneham Memorial Swimming Centre will host a site tour on Day 1 of the Symposium.

This ARCH designed vibrant community hub features an open-air, Olympic-sized pool, plus a new indoor complex housing an eight-lane 25m pool, a learn-to-swim leisure pool, and a zero-depth splash pad. Complete with aqua-slides and outdoor water play elements, our inclusive design ensures a safe, enjoyable environment for users of all ages and abilities.

Join Hegarty, ARCH Principal Architect & Design Director, as he co-hosts a behind-the-scenes site tour to explore this landmark facility.

On Day 2 join Pigram, ARCH Senior Associate & Project Lead Architect, who will take the stage for the panel titled, "Designing the Payneham Memorial Swimming Centre."

If you are involved in planning, funding, designing, managing or operating aquatic facilities, we encourage you to be part of this important national conversation.

Opening in late 2026, Sydney’s new Taronga Wildlife Hospital is redefining traditional veterinary care.

Designed as Australia’s first specialist wildlife teaching hospital, the facility will bring critical wildlife conservation practices into full public view.

Purposefully designed to meet the vital needs of wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, its architecture harmonises with the natural landscape, featuring curved elevations and organic shapes that integrate with the surrounding rock escarpment.

Rock strata conceptually drives the façade of the Taronga Wildlife Hospital, symbolising the geological layers found in nature, with material selection enhancing the design's organic feel. Blue glass bricks, representing water, are used for the marine wildlife rescue department and arranged in a hit-and-miss configuration, allowing good airflow to the marine animals being rehabilitated and improving their welfare.

The public forecourt features a striking canopy inspired by shade trees. This double-height structure, articulated through arched alcoves, frames views of the hospital's treatment areas, connecting the public with the vital work inside. The new hospital will double the teaching and training capacity while encouraging public engagement in wildlife care.

The hospital will train veterinarians and nurses to care for injured wildlife, equipping them with critical skills to respond to disasters such as the 2019 bushfires. With its innovative design and commitment to education and conservation, the new Taronga Wildlife Hospital promises to shape a brighter future for Australian animals.

For ARCH, “Collective Memory” sits at the core of our for the Eastwood Leisure Complex.

Congratulations to Nicolson Construction for being to deliver this exciting community project for Ballarat City Council.

Key elements of the original facility are retained and reinterpreted as spatial anchors. The original entry remains a familiar point of arrival, while the new Short Street courtyard, informed by the Historical Courtyard Evolution, anchors the primary east-west spine connecting Short Street’s existing biodiversity through the building to Graham Reserve.

A north-west internal connection brings and uses together as a continuous journey through the facility. A secondary east-west connection alongside the reclad provides an acoustic buffer and creates an informal place for parents to watch training, meet, and connect.

“Collective Memory” also shapes the façade. Recycled brickwork, metal detailing, and shallow arches reinterpret Ballarat’s architectural character, creating a contemporary civic presence that feels both familiar and permanent. Permeable facades extend community activity outdoors, further connecting the building, people, and place.

Respecting the past without replicating it, and creating a place that feels part of Ballarat while looking forward.

We are taking the next step in our reconciliation journey! After 18 meaningful months of implementing our REFLECT Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), ARCH is proud to announce that we have formally registered to develop our INNOVATE RAP with Australia.

Our REFLECT RAP laid a strong foundation. Over the past year and a half, we have embedded a deeper awareness of Country into our design thinking, strengthened cultural understanding across all our studios, and built clearer, more respectful engagement approaches for designing with communities.

Moving to an INNOVATE RAP is about advancing from intention to action. It’s a commitment to testing practical initiatives, strengthening relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and making reconciliation a core part of our daily practice. To mark this milestone, we asked our team to share what this journey means to them. Here are just five reflections.
