Protecting a piece of Darlinghurst history
Our team was engaged as Project Manager for civil works at one of Darlinghurst’s landmark Federation apartment buildings, a heritage-listed complex built in 1915 with its original architectural features still intact.
Following heavy rain, a steep embankment and retaining wall alongside the property collapsed, resulting in a significant landslip against the building (see last slide!)
Valen coordinated a peer review of the engineering designs for the new retaining wall, identifying opportunities to further improve drainage and strengthen the proposed solution. We then managed the tender process, including documentation, competitive tendering and detailed assessment of submissions, supporting the owners in confidently selecting the right contractor.
During construction, Valen acted as Superintendent on behalf of the owners, overseeing delivery of the civil works as scoped, on time and within budget.
A complex project with heritage considerations, challenging site conditions and a critical focus on protecting the building for the future.
