Project Highlight: Inter-Chillers MSSB Compliance Upgrade ⚡

Upgrading existing switchboard infrastructure takes more than a like-for-like replacement.

For this project, TES carried out a Mechanical Services Switchboard upgrade designed to improve compliance, reliability and long-term performance.

The works included replacing internal switchgear and transformers, upgrading the main distribution section with a compliant Form 3B assembly, and completing the changeover with minimal disruption to tenants.

The result was a safer, more compliant MSSB built to support the mechanical services on site.

A strong example of careful planning, technical detail and efficient delivery from the TES team.

A custom solution for a site where the existing fire panel could not be upgraded. 🔥

TES designed and built this fire fan control panel to meet the mechanical services requirements of the project, helping support safe and reliable fire system operation.

It is a good example of how the right solution is not always off the shelf. Sometimes it needs to be designed around the site, the equipment and the job at hand.

Frequently Asked: What is the difference between an MSSB and a main switchboard? ⚡

Both are switchboards, but they serve different roles within the electrical installation.

A main switchboard is the main point of control for the incoming electrical supply. It distributes power across the wider building or facility to downstream boards and major loads.

A Mechanical Services Switchboard, or MSSB, is generally a downstream board designed specifically to supply and control mechanical equipment, including:

✔ Air handling units
✔ Fans and pumps
✔ Chillers and HVAC plant
✔ Other mechanical services equipment

Put simply, the main switchboard manages the broader power distribution, while the MSSB focuses on the building’s mechanical services.

Different functions, working together to keep the facility safe and operating reliably.
