This section of lawn was constantly wet and soggy, so instead of continually fighting it, we turned the problem into an improvement.
We dug out the affected lawn and converted it into a small garden bed, helping manage the wet area while adding some greenery along the house. 🌿
We churned gypsum through the existing soil to help improve the structure of the heavy soil, allowing water and air to move through it more effectively.
We then added a layer of gravel before bringing in the new soil. The gravel creates a more free-draining base beneath the garden bed, helping excess water move away rather than leaving the new soil sitting wet and waterlogged.
To finish it off, we installed 75mm garden edging. The extra depth creates a solid separation between the lawn and garden bed, keeps everything contained and helps stop the lawn creeping back into the bed — while giving it a nice clean finish. 👌
It’s a good example of killing two birds with one stone — improving a troublesome drainage area AND replacing a patch of lawn that was never going to thrive there.
