During a recent pest control visit, Josh spotted a large redback spider lurking outside, right near a doorway. It was a clear reminder that these venomous spiders aren’t just hiding in sheds - they can appear where people walk and play.

Here’s what you need to know about redbacks:

Appearance: Shiny black body with a bright red stripe on the back. Females are the most dangerous.

Habitat: They love dark, sheltered outdoor areas - under garden furniture, around outdoor lights, fence posts, and doorways.

Behaviour: Redbacks usually bite only if disturbed, but their venom can cause serious pain and discomfort.

Prevention: Keep outdoor areas tidy, move objects away from walls, seal gaps, and schedule a professional treatment.

Ant Activity 🐜

Every year, we get the same calls when the weather heats up, or the rain becomes more consistent - “Why are there suddenly ants everywhere?!”

The truth is… this is completely normal behaviour.

Here’s why 👇

Ants are at their busiest in the warmer and wet seasons.
That doesn’t automatically mean you have an infestation.

A few? Normal.
Ants outside in the garden? Very normal.
But if it’s persistent, increasing, or nesting inside - that’s different.

Sometimes it’s a colony.
Sometimes it’s just summer doing its thing.

🫧 The 'Magic Bubble' Myth

We totally understand the thinking. You invest in professional pest control, and it’s easy to assume your home is now wrapped in an invisible protective bubble where nothing can get in.

We wish it worked like that too 😅

Here’s the friendly truth…

Pest control does not seal your home off from the outside world. What it does is apply targeted treatments in key areas where pests live, hide and travel. These products remain active for a period of time and are designed to control pests when they come into contact with treated surfaces.

But pests are constantly:
- Moving between neighbouring properties
- Breeding (and often very quickly)
- Searching for food and moisture
- Being driven indoors by heat, rain or humidity

For us, in Queensland conditions, pest pressure can stay high for much of the year. That means new pests may still attempt to enter your home - even after a service has been completed.

The treatment works when pests interact with those treated areas. It doesn’t create a force field at your fence line.

That’s why regular servicing is so important. Pest control is about ongoing management - reducing populations, disrupting breeding cycles and keeping activity under control over time.

If you see the occasional pest after a treatment, it doesn’t automatically mean something has failed. Often, it’s simply part of the normal process.

Nature is persistent. Prevention needs to be too.
