Starlink for a childcare centre at Huonville.

Muddy Puddles Childcare and Early Learning runs from a purpose built centre next to the family home, two separate buildings on the same block. Both needed internet, and there was no practical way to run a cable between them.

The dish went on the house, because that roof sits higher with the clearest view of the sky, and in the Huon Valley the gum trees decide that for you. From there a point to point wireless link carries the connection across to the centre. A matched pair of directional radios, one on each roof, aimed straight at each other. It performs like a cable, without digging up ground a childcare centre would rather keep intact.

Inside, each building has a WiFi 6 access point mounted flat on the ceiling. Out of reach of little hands, no cables to pull on, and better coverage than a router on a bench. The whole property runs as one network with one WiFi name and one password, so the sign in tablet, the observation app and every staff phone just work, in either building.

No trench, no second internet service, nothing at child height.

Starlink and WiFi right across a vineyard at Tea Tree.

Mapleton Vineyard has three buildings spread over several hundred metres. A cellar door, a restaurant 200 metres one way, and the main house 300 metres the other. All of them needed internet, and the ground in between needed it too.

One Starlink dish went up on a heavy duty mast on the shed roof, high enough to clear the gum trees so nothing clips the dish's view of the sky. Next to it, an outdoor WiFi 6 access point that pushes usable signal around 500 metres in every direction, which covers roughly 30 acres of vines, driveway and car park.

From there, two point to point wireless links carry the connection across to the house and the restaurant, and each building has its own access point inside. All of it runs as one network. Same WiFi name, same password, anywhere on the property.

The part the owners noticed most was WiFi calling. Coal River Valley properties often sit in patchy mobile coverage, and once the WiFi reaches the vineyard rows and the car park, a phone showing no bars will still make and take calls.

No trenching, no second internet connection, no dead spots between the buildings.
