We recently attended a property in Shorncliffe after the homeowner noticed bubbling paint around a timber window sill. After pulling back some of the damaged paint, active termite activity was discovered and we were contacted straight away.
One of the most important things we tell customers when active termites are found is not to disturb them further if possible. Spraying them with household products, pulling apart damaged timber, or heavily disturbing the workings can cause termites to retreat and relocate to other concealed areas of the home, making treatment more difficult.
In this case, we provided immediate advice to leave the area alone, minimise disturbance where possible, and we attended the property as soon as possible to assess the infestation.
Following inspection, the termite activity appeared quite significant, with evidence suggesting an established infestation within the structure. We have now commenced a staged termite treatment program aimed at eliminating the colony prior to installation of an ongoing termite management system.
Unfortunately, this type of situation is something we regularly see across Shorncliffe, Sandgate, Brighton and other Brisbane bayside suburbs. Warm conditions, moisture, older homes, gardens against structures, and concealed entry points can all increase the risk of termite activity.
Some common warning signs to look out for include:
• Bubbling or lifting paint
• Hollow-sounding timber
• Tight doors or windows
• Mud shelter tubes
• Cracked or distorted architraves
• Moisture issues around the home
Early detection is critical. The sooner termite activity is identified, the better the chances of reducing major structural damage and controlling the infestation before it spreads further through the property.
We provide termite inspections, active termite treatments, termite baiting systems, chemical barriers, and ongoing termite management solutions across Brisbane and surrounding areas.
