We’re thrilled to share that three Smith & Smith projects have been named finalists in the 2026 ACFA Industry Awards.

NORFOLK has been recognised in the Best Kitchen New Build up to $45,000 category — a fresh, youthful kitchen designed for a young family, with clean lines, integrated handles, generous storage and a restrained palette that complements the home’s mid-century character.

CLARE has been recognised in the Best Kitchen Design category — a beautifully resolved family kitchen that brings together soft green-grey cabinetry, natural stone, reeded-glass display details and a more intuitive layout for everyday living and entertaining.

WITNEY has been recognised in the Best Kitchen Renovation $65,001–$85,000 category — a transformation from visual clutter to calm, with a generous island, hardworking butler’s pantry, sculptural fluted detailing and clever storage designed to support busy family life.

A great family kitchen doesn’t just give you more storage — it helps the whole home feel calmer.

For WELLINGTON, a spacious 90s warehouse conversion needed a kitchen that could support busy family life without adding visual clutter to the open-plan architecture.

Smith & Smith designer Amber focused on creating a more composed, functional space where everyday items have somewhere to go, appliances feel integrated, and the kitchen reads as one clean, connected design.

Integrated appliances reduce visual noise, which is especially valuable in a warehouse-style home where the kitchen is always on view. Generous drawers make daily items easier to access and put away, while a smarter pantry solution helps keep the benchtop clear.

At the end of the cooktop run, the appliance pantry keeps the kettle and toaster exactly where the family needs them in the morning — but hidden when not in use. It’s a simple design move with a big everyday benefit: less mess, less friction, more ease.

The central island gives the family a generous place to gather, prep, eat and stay connected, while terrazzo benchtops bring the durability needed for family life with warmth and texture that softens the industrial shell.

Finished with white cabinetry to bounce light through the space, WELLINGTON is now brighter, calmer and far better suited to the rhythm of a growing household.

A warm white Hamptons kitchen designed for family living and entertaining.

This project centres around a generous island that supports the rhythm of everyday life — breakfast, homework, food prep, casual meals and the kind of easy gathering that happens when friends and family come over.

Textured shaker-style cabinetry keeps the look classic and calm, while timber flooring brings warmth and softness to the all-white palette. Behind the clean lines, there’s plenty of practical thinking too: concealed island storage, clever corner solutions and a compact walk-in pantry that keeps the microwave and everyday pantry items tucked away.

The result is a kitchen that feels bright, warm and highly functional — designed for a young family, but refined enough to grow with them for years to come.

We’re thrilled to share that two Smith & Smith projects have been named finalists in the 2026 HIA Eastern Victoria Kitchen Awards.

STANLEY has been recognised in the Renovated Kitchen up to $50,000 category — a light-filled transformation that brings warmth, softness and everyday function into beautiful balance. With its timber island, open shelving, generous garden outlook and calm material palette, STANLEY is a lovely example of how considered design can completely lift the way a kitchen feels and works.

BARNES has been recognised in the New Kitchen over $50,000 category — a richly detailed kitchen that pairs Black American Oak, two-pack finishes and statement stone with true craftsmanship. From custom cross-back doors to a dedicated baking zone, BARNES was designed to feel both luxurious and deeply personal to the way its owners live and entertain.

CORBY is a kitchen designed for connection — not just cooking.

A key move in this Smith & Smith project was transforming a blocked breakfast-bar window into a veranda door, opening the kitchen to better flow, better light and a stronger relationship with the spaces around it.

From there, the layout was shaped around the way people actually gather. The front island faces the dining table, allowing the cook to stay connected with guests, while a second prep island brings the sink, ovens and fridge into a more practical working rhythm.

Storage was considered in the details: oil and spice pull-outs, tray dividers, inner drawers and dedicated appliance storage all help keep the kitchen organised without adding visual clutter.

The result is a kitchen that feels generous, composed and beautifully easy to live in — a space where entertaining, preparing and everyday family life can happen with less friction.

Here’s a new version for NORFOLK, with the focus shifted toward the mid-century palette, restraint and design detailing rather than the morning family-flow angle:

NORFOLK is a kitchen designed to sit quietly and confidently within a home full of character.

With the owners already drawn to colourful mid-century furniture and design pieces, the kitchen didn’t need to compete for attention. Instead, Smith & Smith designer Amber created a calm, considered backdrop — fresh, youthful and warm, while allowing the rest of the home’s personality to come forward.

The clean cabinetry lines, integrated handles and minimal detailing give the room a sense of ease, while the central island anchors the space without overwhelming it. A shadow line beneath the slim 20mm benchtop creates a subtle floating effect, with a timber detail that brings warmth and definition in just the right measure.

Rather than chasing trends, the palette was carefully restrained: simple enough to feel timeless, but still full of quiet character. It’s this balance that gives NORFOLK its charm — practical for a young family, but refined enough to grow with them over time.

A kitchen that doesn’t shout, but still says exactly what it needs to.

Why design one beautiful kitchen when a home calls for two?

For our BURGESS project, Smith & Smith created two distinct kitchen spaces within the one residence — each with its own purpose, but both connected through a shared sense of drama, detail and craftsmanship.

The main kitchen makes a confident statement with black textured two-pack cabinetry, rich stone and subtle Chinoiserie-inspired detailing. It feels bold and contemporary, but still layered and elegant — a space designed to hold its own within a highly considered home.

The second kitchen works quietly in support, offering additional function, storage and preparation space without compromising the overall design language. Together, the two kitchens create a home that is not only beautiful to live in, but effortless to entertain from.

Calacatta stone with silver and bronze movement brings warmth and sophistication, while clever joinery ensures the spaces work harder than they first appear.

BURGESS is proof that luxury is not just about what you see — it’s about how seamlessly a home supports the way you live.

ALTON is proof that a kitchen can feel quietly elevated without becoming overly formal.

The brief was never to start again from scratch. Instead, Smith & Smith designer Amber focused on making the existing space feel brighter, warmer and more resolved — a kitchen with classic charm, but with a lighter hand.

A key shift was replacing the angled island with a clean rectangular form. It brings more order to the room, creating better movement through the kitchen and a more natural place for people to gather while cooking, serving or entertaining.

Storage was also approached with everyday ease in mind. More drawers, a redesigned pantry and scalloped internal shelving make the kitchen feel more generous and intuitive, with provisions easier to see, reach and put away.

The materials bring the design to life. Solid American Oak adds warmth and depth in carefully chosen moments, while Dulux ‘White Cloak Half’ shaker cabinetry keeps the room feeling soft, fresh and timeless. A textured finish helps diffuse the light, giving the whole space a calmer, more organic quality.

To complete the living zone, a custom TV unit was designed to sit comfortably alongside the kitchen — allowing the whole space to feel connected, considered and beautifully cohesive.

A WAREHOUSE CONVERSION KITCHEN FIT FOR A FAMILY. In a spacious 90s warehouse conversion, the kitchen should feel just as considered as the architecture around it.
For this Smith & Smith project, designer Amber worked with the homeowners to transform a dark, under-resolved kitchen into a brighter, warmer and more functional space for family life.
Integrated appliances help remove visual noise, allowing the kitchen to read as one cohesive composition. Storage was completely rethought, with practical drawers, a smarter pantry solution and an appliance pantry that keeps the kettle and toaster close at hand without cluttering the benchtop.
At the centre of the room, the island now works as a true family hub — generous enough for prep, casual meals, kids’ activities or a quiet cup of tea without feeling caught in the cooking zone.
Terrazzo benchtops bring durability and warmth, while white cabinetry helps bounce light through the industrial shell, creating a space that feels calm, clean and inviting even in the busyness of everyday life.

A family kitchen needs to do more than look beautiful. It has to work at 7am, when the house is busy, breakfast is happening, and everyone is moving at once.

For the NORFOLK kitchen, designer Amber created a fresh, youthful kitchen for a young family with small children — one that feels calm, practical and connected to the home’s mid-century character.

Integrated handles keep the cabinetry clean and minimal, while also creating a safer, smoother flow with fewer protruding edges for little heads, tired parents and busy mornings. The central island becomes the natural hub of the home, giving the family a generous place for breakfast, prep, entertaining and everyday connection.

The palette was intentionally restrained to complement the owners’ colourful mid-century pieces, allowing those much-loved furnishings to shine. A subtle shadow line beneath the 20mm benchtop adds a floating effect, with a timber detail that brings just the right amount of warmth and contrast.

The result is a beautifully resolved “Goldilocks” kitchen — not too much, not too little, but just right for the rhythm of family life.
