The initial design was completed in 2015, and now more than ten years later we are finally bringing this dream to life...After lengthy delays caused by high powered locals and an enormous amount of community campaigning, construction on Rushcutters Bay Skatepark is progressing!

Convic has collaborated with Woollahra Council over the last decade to undertake site feasibility studies and nail the perfect location for the park, tree studies to retain and protect the impressive established Moreton Bay figs in the area, and work through heritage and cultural considerations to get us to this point. These pictures represent a massive win for both Council and the local youth community who have fought hard to realise this space.

With a street and beginner focus, this park fills a gap in Sydney’s network. The low street features will cater to a younger crowd, and the mixed use areas will support the wider community, with basketball and spectator facilities designed to integrate with the skate sections.

The Convic site team is doing what they do best, which is an awesome job perfecting every aspect of this build. We can’t wait to share more as this park continues to take shape...Stay tuned. 🙏

Gunyama Park - 10 years in the making 🙌

This isn’t your average skate spot. Drawing on materials and finishes typical to the Sydney region, the park moves away from a traditional skatepark aesthetic and is designed to cater to a wider range of users.

As part of a broader art strategy for Gunyama Park, Convic collaborated with local Aboriginal groups to develop an integrated artwork approach to celebrate local heritage and enrich the space’s identity.

Many thanks to Sydney Skateboard Association for advocating for this space, it’s great to see it finally open to the public. Tag us in your posts!

Thank you to Chris Middap, our Lead Technical, who is celebrating his 15 year anniversary at Convic. Chris has been skateboarding for over 20 years, fuelling his passion for designing youth spaces and active recreation infrastructure. As a skilled skater and highly experienced designer, Chris has merged his meticulous design and construction knowledge developing internal processes that ensure both the design and construction teams continue to deliver high quality and iconic D&C outcomes.

Since having two kids, Chris’ kickflips my have slowed down, but his passion, care and attention to finding better and smarter ways to design and build skate parks hasn’t. Known to the team as “Rowdy”, he can be the quietest guy in the office but is always the one answering the most questions, sharing his knowledge and experience throughout the team, and teaching others about the finer details of design and build.

🛹 THE AGNES WATER SKATE PARK IS OPEN!

No official announcement from Gladstone Regional Council.

No media release.

No fanfare.

Not even a “Hey Agnes Water, your skate park is open.”

Just a quiet little… “it’s open.” 🤷‍♂️

In fact, Council’s own website still says the area is a construction site and closed to the public.

But the fences are down and the skate park is OPEN! 🎉

After months of construction and plenty of locals asking when it would finally open, you’d think someone might have mentioned it.

Anyway… now you know. 😄

🛹🛴🚲 Get on it, Agnes Water!

PS. Thanks to the construction crew, designers, and Council, this is a fantastic facility for our town.

SKATEBOARDING IS FOR EVERYONE!!! 🩷🙌

What a weekend at MOMENTUM SK8 in Lismore. The community really got behind this event for its second year, and what an incredible group of gutsy and gifted competitors, ranging from just four years old and up 👏👏

Thank you T O R A for being “the smile, the face and the voice” of female skating: there couldn’t have been a better MC for this event! 🎤

Well done to the organisers, what a great event. We can’t wait for the next year of MOMENTUM. 🫶🫶

It was incredible to have the opportunity to celebrate the opening of the Lismore Skate & Youth Precinct with the community late last year. A genuinely positive story to come out of some tough times for the town of Lismore, the precinct opened with 1000s in attendance to make for an incredible opening day.
