This facility started as a sketch I did on an A4 piece of paper. Four months later my business partner Aaron, Bro from Ironside Welding Services and I built it by hand.

It was designed with real world scenarios in mind so students can practice the situations they'll actually find themselves in on a job.
We've also done our best to make it a place people actually want to show up to, with lunch provided daily from Roadrunners Drive Thru Coffee & Carwash , free sodas, an ice bath, a classroom for the theory side of things, and Alfie our Spoodle who runs around most days of the week.

Rope access rescues are extremely rare. The most common reason people will need help is mainly from heat exhaustion, but still most technicians won’t ever have to do a real rescue in their careers.

These are 5 of the best trades to pair with a rope access certificate right now.

- Boilermakers
- Scaffolders
- Riggers
- NDT Technicians
- Electricians

This isn’t to say you can’t make great money pairing rope access with other trades too, these are just the 5 I know for sure are in high demand right now.
If you have one of these or you’re just someone who wants to learn more about rope access, shoot me a DM and I’ll be happy to answer any questions you have.

Rob is an experienced boilermaker who got his Level 1’s last year, which opened up new opportunities with better pay that he wouldn't have had access to before.

He's since come to Topside to do his Level 2’s and is now a qualified Level 2 rope access technician.

Meet Alfie, Topside's Chief Safety Supervisor 🐾

No IRATA ticket, no harness, but don't let that fool you. Alfie watches every rescue and manoeuvre from his executive lounge chair, and the moment a candidate or "casualty" touches down, he's straight over to check they're OK. Wellbeing checks, tail wags and the occasional slobbery debrief, all included in the course fee 😄

Come train with us and get the full Alfie experience.

As an instructor I still try to go out and work on real sites 2-3 times a year, whether that's in the mines, offshore or locally.

It's important to the students that what I teach actually reflects what modern working conditions look like.

🎪 Back under the lights! ✨

Tonight Topside Rope Access is proud to support Kate Wilson Events at the Grey Matter Gala — a black-tie evening at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre raising funds for brain cancer research through the Daniela Dwyer Foundation. 💚

We’ve donated the use of one of our ACX powered ascenders for the aerialist performance — because when it’s for a great cause, it’s an easy yes.

Flying a performer looks effortless from the floor, but behind every graceful lift is careful rigging, thorough checks, and a solid rescue plan. It’s the same discipline that keeps our rope access technicians safe at height, every day.

For me personally, this one’s close to the heart — nearly fifteen years in the entertainment industry, and nights like this are a reminder of why I love it. 🙌

Here’s to a wonderful evening and a brilliant cause. 🥂
