Hi you lot! I wanted to say a few words about my art being up in the newly opened Whale Tail Gallery in Mulumba, Minjerribah. I’m gonna have some paintings up there from March 31 - May 4, come along and see them! Whale of a time..ha ha. There’s an opening on Easter Saturday, 4th April. See yas there.

About my art:
I wonder, if the mobile Phone had been invented around Van Gogh’s time, would he have painted en plein air? I use my phone as a means of capture. It’s a bit like a butterfly net: you don’t know what you’ll get. My paintings are small corners of what my phone captures. I like finding those compositions I never saw when I took the picture. I like the out of focus smudges of unexpected colour and the lines that lead the eye to surprises that were always there, hidden in plain sight. I put a frame around nature, to celebrate and elevate what is always there; we just need to look.

Hello hello! I am making my debut on facebook to tell you all about this exhibition on Minjerribah starting this arvo. A few artists and I have put this thing together and we're proud to exhibit our art and create the gallery space together, with an exhibition all about art and nature, intertwined. Hope to see you there. Gil.

We are so excited about our upcoming first group exhibition:

Nature Intertwined
🌱🪾🦅🌊🍃

This exhibition features seven artists from North Stradbroke Island / Minjerribah and celebrates the island’s natural beauty through a diverse range of artistic practices inspired by local landscapes, flora and fauna.

Nature Intertwined exhibition Artist Spotlight:
Gil Scrine

In his words:
“This is the little beach at Goompie near where I live. If you look closely you can see a man walking his dog. This painting started as a sketch, became an experiment, which seemed to work out. I used oils so the paint would glisten. It's a simple painting with more complexity than is obvious.”

Gil Scrine has always loved drawing and painting though he never studied art. His only art prize was a school poster competition at age 14. His ambition is to paint and draw freely, without deadlines or needs. He is a wishful thinker.
