🔧 WHAT PLUMBING CAN YOU LEGALLY DO YOURSELF IN WA?
Doing a small job yourself might save money—but completing plumbing work that requires a licence can lead to leaks, water damage, contamination and expensive repairs.
Under WA’s updated plumbing rules, homeowners can undertake a limited number of basic tasks, including:
✅ Maintaining, repairing or replacing a showerhead
✅ Maintaining or repairing a standard tap
✅ Replacing a toilet cistern washer
✅ Replacing a water-filter cartridge
✅ Clearing a blocked fixture or waste pipe with a plunger
Most other work involving water supply, sanitary plumbing or drainage must be completed by a licensed plumber or permit holder.
Licensed plumbing isn’t just about following rules—it protects your home, your family and our drinking-water supply. Certain major plumbing work must also be covered by a Certificate of Compliance, providing a six-year guarantee that the work meets the required plumbing standards.
