How’s this. Previous gas fitter drilled into a gas pipe then plugged off with silicone and small screw, 23 years later was found and repaired.

Smart Gas and Plumbing

If you have a storage hot water system you will see these valves attached to the unit. The valve on the left is a "temperature pressure relief valve", this valve will release water from the tank if the temperature exceeds a certain temperature and the valve on the right is a "pressure relief valve", this valve will release water when the pressure in the tank gets too high. This valve will drip while your hot water system is heating up. A good tip with these valves is to release water by lifting the hook upwards, let the water run for 5 seconds then close. Doing this every 3 to 6 months will lengthen the life of the valves. If these valves constantly drip then it will require replacement. Put a reminder in your diary. As much as I hate to say it, the weather is turning. Get you heaters out and try them sooner than later. Dust can build up in the unit and they can run inefficiently. Give me a call if you need advice or if you think the unit may require a service.

This is what I removed from a very expensive house in Dalkeith. It looks to me like it was stood on siliconed up and then installed. Not done by us. Has all been replaced with a new one and reinstalled.

I know it's early days but we also service gas room heaters. If you think your heater needs a look at, put a reminder in your diary before it gets cold. Heaters should be serviced at least every 2 to 3 years maximum. Dust can build up inside the unit and block the burner, causing a build up of soot. If bad can produce Carbon Monoxide.
