Master Builders WA is delighted to share some great news regarding the pine shortage impacting the building industry in WA!

Months of advocacy along with our collaborative engagement with the State Government, Forestry Minister Dave Kelly MP, and Wespine Industries ply of pine logs! The additional 12,000 tonnes to Wespine Industries will greatly benefit builders, clients, chippies, suppliers, apprentices, and those who rely on pine supply.

To make the announcement, we had the pleasure of Minister Kelly visiting a Master Builder member’s construction site Daly & Shaw Building. More importantly, we had the Minister spend some time sharing his views with carpenter Aly Harper from Cubic who won the MBA WA 2018 Apprentice of the Year award, John Gelavis, Executive Director MBA WA, and Robert Shaw from Daly & Shaw Builders and State and National MBA board member.

Thank you to all our wonderful members for your support and participation in our surveys, which enables us to take up pressing issues with the State Government. We are committed to continuing to focus on the key issues that impact your business and our industry.

Thank you Dave Kelly MP and the State Government for supporting Master Builders WA advocacy and increasing the supply of pine logs by 12,000 tonnes, which will support builders, clients, chippies, suppliers, apprentices and those who rely on pine supply.

Great to be out on a proud Master Builders Members building site with Robert Shaw from Daly & Shaw Building with our Executive Director John Gelavis, Carpenter & 2018 MBA WA Apprentice of the Year Aly Harper from Cubic to announce this important initiative with the Forestry Minister.

After our June membership survey identified pine supply as one of the major issues effecting the industry, Master Builders embarked on a campaign to support our members. After several meetings with the State Government and Wespine Industries we are really pleased that this advocacy initiate has been supported and delivered to assist the industry.

Thank you to all our wonderful members for participating in our surveys, which provide important industry information that ensures we are focussed on the key issues that impact your business and our industry.

If you are a Master Builders member, check your email inbox as you have received a Member Alert with more information.

Pleased to announce that the McGowan Government has made available an additional 12,000 tonnes of WA grown pine logs over the next three months, to help meet the current increase in demand for timber from the State’s building and construction sector.

The McGowan Government’s WA Recovery Plan has supported an unprecedented boom in WA’s building and construction sector. At the same time, a global shortage of structural timber has limited the importation of pine into WA.

Building and construction industry body Master Builders Western Australia has recently highlighted a shortage of softwood needed to complete current building projects and has been working closely with the State Government to increase timber supply.

The global shortage of structural pine reinforces how important it is for WA to have a sustainable, long-term and local supply of this critical resource.

The McGowan Government’s record $350 million expansion of WA’s pine plantations will secure long-term supply and ensure we have a sustainable timber industry for the future.

Consider this. An independent inspector is engaged during a house construction and before the roof goes on provides a building report which in their opinion identifies structural Code violation(s). The builder subsequently denies in writing there is a problem and proceeds with the build. Who arbitrates on who is right and how much will it cost to sort out?
