Congratulations to our team members who have recently completed their Cert IV in Leadership & Management!

It's great to be able to celebrate your dedication and hard work.

Congratulations to our 2022-23 participants who successfully achieved the Certificate IV in Leadership & Management. This Group training initiative was conducted in collaboration with Future Institute of Australia and involved participants from our NRW Civil & Mining, Action Drill & Blast and RCR Mining Technologies businesses.

Juanita Berrow, Learning & Development Manager, commented, “Investing in the development of our Leaders is important to us at NRW. It was great to see Leaders from our various entities sharing their knowledge and experiences. It is certainly a milestone to celebrate and acknowledge the hard work and commitment of these individuals.”

Communicating and engaging with our business on HSEQ is one of the most important things we can do as a company, and our HSEQ team went above and beyond by holding a Safety Leadership Day!

Held at Optus Stadium, the event brought together 81 people from our NRW Civil & Mining and Action Drill & Blast teams, both subsidiaries of NRW Holdings, to reflect on past and present HSEQ, and set the course for the future.

Our Chief Operating Officer, Mike Sutton opened the day. General Manager of HSEQ Thomas Byrne, led sessions with a HSEQ review and shared the HSEQ Strategy. Navid Manuchehri, General Counsel provided an overview of the WA WHS legislation and Brett McIntosh, Chief HSE & Sustainability Officer spoke about Critical Risk Management.

We finished the day with a talk from a guest speaker John Rillie, Perth Wildcats Head Coach, who spoke on the importance of strong leadership and creating high performing teams.

Thank you to everyone who helped organise and all attendees, especially those who travelled from Queensland for the day!

October is National Safe Work Month! We're proud of the safety culture that exists across our sites and offices, created through our safety program 'A Safe Day, Every Day' and fostered by being a part of the NRW Holdings Group.

A safe and healthy workplace benefits everyone and we encourage everyone to continue prioritising safety even as this month draws to a close.

October is National Safe Work Month!

Everyone has the right to a healthy and safe environment, and this year’s theme, ‘For Everyone’s Safety, Work Safely’, is a great reminder that we all have a responsibility to create a safe and inclusive workplace.

At NRW, safety is and always has been our number one priority, and we're proud to foster a culture that prioritises the well-being of our team. Through initiatives like, Critical Risk Management, safety leadership and psychosocial training, we continuously strive to enhance safety measures across all of our business units – NRW Civil & Mining, Golding, Primero, Action Drill & Blast, RCR Mining Technologies, DIAB Engineering, AES Equipment Solutions and OFI / Powering Innovation.

Safety isn’t just something we’ve practised this month, but an integral part of who we are as a company. As National Safe Work Month comes to a close, we encourage you to look after your team members and yourself every single day.

Our Graduate Program aims to cultivate our graduates into future leaders of our organisation. One such future leader is Daniel.

Daniel is one of our Graduate Mining Engineers currently gaining experience at Karara. He’s shown great potential in Mining Management – a pathway he is keen to explore.

“The Graduate Mining Engineering role at Karara has enabled me to see more of my country and experience its communities. Their guidance and mentorship are absolutely and utterly of high value to me.” Spoken like a true leader, Daniel. We’re glad to have you onboard.

The NRW team recently had the pleasure of hosting a group of students from the WA College of Agriculture Morawa on the Karara site with our client, Karara Mining Limited.

Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West, producing premium high-grade magnetite concentrate.

The group had the chance to learn about the Karara operations and careers at NRW, with a focus on environmental management and mine rehabilitation. The timing of the visit coincided with a scheduled blast, so the students got to experience this rare opportunity and join our crew in viewing it from a safe distance.

After which, they got to get up close and personal with a CAT 793F Dump Truck. Nothing prepares people for the sheer size and power of this machine – they were very impressed!

Today marks the International Day of Women in Mining – a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women in the mining industry.

NRW is fortunate to have remarkable women on our team, like Saskia, who has recently become the first Shovel Operator Trainee at Karara. Starting on the project as a Dump Truck Operator and then Grader Operator, Sas showed a great attitude and competency. When the opportunity to further develop her skills and progress into her next role came along, she took it on with unmatched enthusiasm, finding the experience “exhilarating”.

Saskia is one of the many amazing NRW women that work on and are progressing through the ranks at Karara. Great work from Saskia! The Karara team are lucky to have you onboard.

Recently our Maintenance Systems Specialist, Leigh, was a guest speaker at RPM Global, presenting on increasing the efficiency of systems with the implementation of Power BI.

After finding gaps within our existing process, Leigh was wanting to create a quick and easy method of pulling data that is useable across any skill level. Using Power BI, he was able to create a user-friendly dashboard that does just that. This function has now become his team’s central management tool.

To see Leigh’s expertise recognised, both within the NRW team and externally, is incredible and much deserved. Great work, Leigh.

Carol Innes AM, Co-Chair of Reconciliation WA and Co-Director of the Danjoo Koorliny Social Impact Project, was invited to join our Intelligent Freeways Alliance (IFA) team at our Balcatta office for a National Reconciliation Week presentation.

Carol spoke deeply and openly about the history behind this week and the importance of acknowledging our shared history, as well as her personal history. This year’s theme, ‘Be the Voice of Generations’ resonated deeply as we discussed the past, present and future of reconciliation in Australia.

We are immensely grateful to Carol Innes for sharing this experience with us, and thank you to Andrew Yarran, as well, for organising such an enlightening event.

For ANZAC Day, our teams at Mt Webber and Karara held a dawn service in memory of our ANZACs. Joining us on this national day of remembrance was our fellow NRW Holdings subsidiary, Action Drill & Blast.

ANZAC Day is the time for honouring the sacrifices made by past and present brave defence personnel. We owe them our deepest gratitude and heartfelt thanks. Lest we forget.
