At the recent iTnews Benchmark Awards, NRW was nominated for an award in Best Industrial Project for its project "Driving Efficiency and Decarbonisation." This nomination recognised the successful deployment of MaxMine Carbon at Karara Mining Limited’s Karara open-pit magnetite mine.

Although we didn’t take home the award, the nomination itself is a testament to the strength of the solution and its impact on decarbonisation.

We recently caught up with Abe, Senior Mining Engineer at Karara, to talk about this nomination. “To be ranked up in the higher echelons of that is an excellent achievement and we’re quite proud of the work we’ve done to achieve that.” Watch more below!

It’s always great to see our team members grow with NRW! Andrej began with us as a Graduate Contracts Administrator and, having recently finished the NRW Graduate Program, has moved into a full-time Contracts Administrator role.

Today marks International Women’s Day, a great chance to celebrate the spectacular women within NRW and recognise the work our team is doing to ‘Accelerate Action’ towards gender disparity, this year's theme.

The theme is a call to address the fact that gender parity will not be achieved for another 133 years without fast-tracked progress towards equal opportunity.

We remain committed to our diversity and inclusion efforts, from unconscious bias training for our Recruitment team to an NRW Holdings Group-wide Equity, Diversity and Inclusion policy. We’ve also supported programs such as the Women in Mining WA Mentoring Program and Summit with other businesses across the Group.

Due to these efforts, we’ve seen a significant increase in female representation over the past year, including roles such as Operators, Drivers, Trades Apprentices, Trainees and Graduates.

Featured below are two of our Trainees going through the Operator Training Program, a program championed by our Training department. It’s this dedication from our team that makes progress possible.

The NRW team at Rio Tinto’s site is tracking well with the Haul Road Overpass project!

We were awarded this contract in April 2024 and officially began bulk earthworks in August of the same year. Praising their work, NRW Civil Resources General Manager Dennis Donjerkovich commented, “The NRW team on site has advanced well in this project. They’ve run the project smoothly with minimal to no effect on the client’s operations.”

Our team is now moving on to the tunnel backfill. We look forward to seeing how this progresses. Watch this space!

Congratulations to Monique for winning last month’s ICARE award from our client Rio Tinto!

Monique is an operator in our West Angelas A-West team and she’s been recognised for going the extra mile and always keeping safety front of mind.

We’re always proud to celebrate our team’s achievements and it’s excellent to see them embodying NRW’s value for safety! Well done, Monique.

NRW Civil & Mining – moving on up.

We began as an earthmoving company in 1994, and since then, we’ve moved over 180 million cubic metres of earth! That’s enough material to fill the average open-cut mine pit 80 times over.

From a fleet of 150 machines in the 2000s, we’ve grown to have over 600 pieces of machinery active on site and expanded our services to include civil and mining capabilities such as road construction, bridges, mine planning, rehabilitation and much more.

Our HSE team at West Angelas recently recognised Dominik from our supplier Pilbara Traffic Management (PTM), for his exceptional attitude towards safety! 👏

We’ve been safely delivering on the West Angelas site since 2017 and are currently working closely with PTM there to control the flow of traffic into and out of site, maximising safety for all of our people and operations.

Though the award may say NRW, our value of teamwork extends to our suppliers and subcontractors. After all, we’re working towards the same goal: high-quality delivery with safety front of mind. We look forward to continuing to develop these partnerships at West Ange!

Meet Clara! Clara has been with NRW Civil & Mining for seven years, working her way to Senior Contracts Administrator from a Commercial Graduate role.

Based mostly on the A-West West Angelas project, Clara enjoys the diversity of her role, the people she works with and the opportunities NRW provides.

And just like that, another group of apprentices have transferred to AES Equipment Solutions!

After a two-week onboarding program, our Training team officially handed over the 2025 apprentices to fellow NRW Holdings subsidiary, AES Equipment Solutions, to gain hands-on experience in the workshops under the supervision of experts in their field.

Over the next few years, these future leaders will grow technically, professionally, and personally with ourselves and AES, so that when they enter the workforce, they’re not just entering as seasoned professionals but as well-rounded people.

We look forward to accompanying them on this journey!
