Meet Josh

Josh's journey began with us as an Apprentice Boilermaker, leaving school he joined Civmec as our very first apprentice, eager to learn and contribute. With determination and hard work, he swiftly evolved from apprentice to a fully qualified boilermaker.

From there, Josh worked on a diverse range of projects before eventually joining the Maintenance division. This provided an opportunity for him to further develop his skillset.

What drew Josh to the Maintenance team was being able to pick and choose what shutdowns you wanted to work on, this provided him with plenty of flexibility and provided great work life balance. Over time, Josh climbed the ranks and has the role Maintenance Superintendent, ensuring the success of our shutdowns in the Pilbara region.

Josh highlights the many opportunities offered to employees Civmec, attributing his progression to the company's supportive team culture. The emphasis on mentoring and upskilling is evident, as Civmec's very first apprentice, Josh stands as a living testament to this commitment to growth.

Whether you have years of experience or just new to the industry, Civmec has a role for you. Click on the link below to view our current opportunities.

Civmec is pleased to share that CEO Pat Tallon and Chairman Jim Fitzgerald recently had the pleasure of visiting Anglicare’s youth homelessness facility, Foyer Oxford.

Foyer Oxford is a cutting edge youth housing service that combines holistic support, high quality housing and access to flexible training to give young people (16 – 23 years old) the opportunity to thrive long term.

After touring the facility Pat Tallon and Jim Fitzgerald presented a cheque on behalf of Civmec. We recognise that Christmas can be a tough period for some, and we are appreciative of Anglicare’s efforts to tackle the issue of youth homelessness.

We’d like to extend our gratitude to Anglicare WA for the work they do. Through their services and support, we are positive that our contribution will provide much needed relief to those affected.

In an effort to make a difference for WA families who are doing it tough this Christmas, Civmec ran a festive food drive for Foodbank WA.

Employees at Henderson were invited to place non-perishable food and other wanted items under the Christmas trees stationed in both the main and assembly hall receptions.

More than 350 kilos of donations were collected in total, which was then loaded onto a flat bed truck and delivered to Foodbank’s WA headquarters.

Civmec wishes to thank everyone who generously contributed to the food drive.

🎄✨ In the spirit of the season, we're thrilled to share the efforts of the Civmec family as we worked closely with St. Patrick's Community Support Centre to help families in need this Christmas.

One team of our employees packed hampers for those who could use a little extra support during the holidays. We are sure that these hampers will bring smiles and comfort to families in our community. Another team lent a helping hand at the St Pat's annual Christmas lunch, where they served up delicious meals and shared the festive spirit with everyone present.

In addition to our hands-on involvement, Civmec made a financial donation to St Pat’s, as part of our ongoing commitment to making a positive impact.

This holiday season, let's remember the power of kindness, generosity, and coming together to make a difference. We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the well-being of our community and wish everyone a joyful and meaningful festive season!

At Civmec, everything we do is underpinned by our values. The m in Civmec stands for Make a Difference and this year we're proud to have supported the Waalitj Foundation.

Last week, we welcomed a couple special guests. Former West Coast Eagle Sharrod Wellingham and Fremantle Docker Troy Cook along with Communications Manager D’Arne Corr.

The group visited our Henderson facility and accepted a donation on behalf of the Waalitj Foundation. Waalitj means eagle in Indigenous language and the organisation is dedicated to providing education, employment, and business opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

CEO Pat Tallon guided our guests on a site tour, offering insights into our operations. Jim Fitzgerald, our Chairman, joined the group to present a cheque and discuss further practical opportunities.

We look forward to a continued partnership with Waalitj and are confident that our collaboration will “Make a Difference”.

Courtney is a Deputy Project Manager here at Civmec and oversees our commitments to the BHP Engineering Panel and our recent Port Hedland facility build.

Having joined us 20 months ago, Courtney was drawn to Civmec by the opportunity to diversify in a company that operates over a multitude of different sectors. Austal, Civmec and Navantia are proud to announce that they have partnered to offer the Australian Government a proposal to deliver six corvettes in recognition of the Navy’s urgent need for increased strike capability.

Designed by Navantia, the corvette combines the manoeuvrability of a Tier 2 vessel, with the powerful weaponry of a major surface combatant. The corvettes require a smaller crew than larger ships, without compromising on integrated anti-air, anti-surface, anti-submarine, electronic and asymmetric warfare capabilities, including sovereign solutions such as the Saab Australian combat system and CEA Technologies radars.

Civmec recently had the pleasure of hosting the Matagarup Elders Group (MEG) at our Henderson facility. The MEG are an advisory group consisting of Noongar elders who have been invaluable partners in providing cultural and heritage advice to inform design elements of the Causeway Pedestrian and Cyclist Bridges project.

During their visit, the MEG, alongside members of the Causeway Link Alliance and Main Roads were given a tour of our Henderson Facility that was led by our Executive Chairman, Jim Fitzgerald, and Executive General Manager of Manufacturing, David Power.

This visit provided an incredible opportunity for the MEG to witness the project they've been passionately contributing to as it takes shape before their eyes.

The collaboration and wisdom of the MEG has been instrumental in ensuring that the project will truly reflect the rich Whadjuk Noongar culture and heritage of the project site. We are deeply grateful for their guidance and partnership on this iconic, West Australian project.

We are incredibly proud to share the remarkable achievements and insights of our very own Tessa Sarris from our HR IR team who yesterday presented at the Industrial Relations Society WA Women in IR Breakfast. Tessa's journey is a great representation of the strength, determination, and resilience of women in the workforce.
Tessa spoke about her personal journey in a male-dominated industry, shedding light on the challenges she faced and the strategies she employed to overcome these barriers.

One of the key takeaways from Tessa's presentation was the importance of strong female role models. Their leadership provided her with the guidance and support she needed to navigate her career successfully.
As a working mother, Tessa shared her reflections on her accomplishments and the support she receives from Civmec. We are proud to be a company that values the contributions of all our employees and provides the necessary support for them to thrive.

Tessa stressed that advocacy for women in industrial relations is not just the responsibility of mentors and managers; it can and should happen at every level. We can all contribute by showcasing the talents of our female colleagues within influential networks and ensuring that their achievements receive the recognition they deserve.

Civmec is excited to share this testimonial from the Fitzroy Bridge Alliance regarding the New Fitzroy River Bridge based in the Kimberly region.

"The Fitzroy Bridge Alliance (FBA), comprising Georgiou, BMD, BG&E, was selected by Main Roads to fast track the delivery of the 268m long bridge over the Fitzroy River. The design solution involved the use of innovative weathering steel material and modularising segments in order to accelerate construction of the bridge. Due to the short fabrication time frame and in recognition that a Tier 1 fabricator could deliver this complex fabrication project, FBA engaged Civmec to deliver this part of the project.

Civmec successfully navigated the material logistic challenges posed by the short timeframe and 'just in time' design changes. Civmec successfully evolved their fabrication processes to manage 1200tn of weathering grade steel, and delivered a high-quality bridge module on time. With Civmec's contribution to the project, FBA were able to expedite the delivery of this iconic project."

We'd like to express our appreciation to all of our dedicated employees whose hard work has been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition. We would also like to extend a thank you to the Fitzroy Bridge Alliance for entrusting us with this remarkable project. We look forward to more opportunities to make a positive impact and deliver outstanding results for the communities in which we operate.

Meet Nigel

Today, we're excited to introduce Nigel, one of our dedicated Boilermakers at Civmec, and share his journey that highlights the outstanding growth and development opportunities within our company.

Originally hailing from Zimbabwe and raised in South Africa, Nigel found his way to Australia and initially worked in Siteworks. However, his desire for a change led him to Civmec through our partnership with Skill Hire and was driven by a keen interest to work in the shipbuilding industry.

Nigel's transition to Civmec marked a significant turning point in his career. He eagerly embraced the higher standards at Civmec, seeing them as an exciting chance to expand his skillset. Having honed his steel forming skills, Nigel has ambitions of progressing to a Press Operator role.
