We love this initiative by Safe Work Australia as part of #safeworkmonth. The way forward in the safety industry is to be actively involving front-line workers and various different tiers of your organisation in the decision making process behind safety procedures. As the saying goes, "nothing about us without us".

Here is an overview of the main points to think about when organising safety chats involving the whole team:

In advance - THINK safety
- How can you make this a regular occurrence, entrenching it in your workplace culture? How can you encourage free-flowing participation? Set an agenda.

On the Day – WORK SAFE
- How can you make sure everyone feels safe and included? Make it a 2-way conversation. Take notes. Follow up.

After the meeting – BE SAFE
- Set targets. Encourage reporting. Outline reporting processes. Set the next date.

Are you going to organise a safety chat over a cuppa?

The Importance of Safety Culture — Workplace Health and Safety Courses | Elect Training & Consulting

"Organisations need to incorporate health and safety into all aspects of the business, placing the same level of focus and attention to health and safety as it does to finance and governance or any other aspect of the business."

Read our article at the link below for more on the importance of embedding safety into every aspect of your organisational culture.

Safety culture is something that we seem to intuitively understood to be important. The very nature of the words seems to indicate that it should be important. It is therefore understandable that safety culture has received so much focus and attention.

The recent outbreaks of COVID in Whadjuk and across many of our lands means that some of us are celebrating from home, from isolation, or from a healthy 2m distance from one another. This doesn't mean you can't fully immerse in the spirit. Read here about 20 ways you can have a COVIDSAFE NAIDOC week.

In our increasingly fast paced world, there seems to an ever-looming pressure to have our tasks done quickly. Safety is all about knowing the value in taking time to be precautious and thorough. Safety is the most important efficiency you could ever possess.

Great quote by Mario Andretti. Meant for the context of car racing but applies to safety, too. When do you take extra care at work?

April 28 is World Day for Safety and Health at Work and Worker's Memorial Day. It provides us with the opportunity to both raise awareness of safety and health in workplaces and to remember those who have tragically died from work-related injury or illness.

This year's theme is "Anticipate, prepare, and respond to crises and invest now in resilient OHS systems". The theme acknowledges the impact that the global Covid-19 pandemic has had on our working lives and the importance of building an effective, resilient, and adaptable WHS framework.

What health and safety adjustments has your business had to make due to Covid-19?
