🌿 A Couple of Days in the Field

Nothing too fancy with this one — just a look at two normal days out in the field with a few of our Aboriginal Land Care teams.

The video captures some of the everyday work our crews undertake across natural areas:

🌱 Woody w**d control – Castor Oil (Ricinus communis)
🌿 Revegetation planting
🌳 Dieback treatment and management
🌾 Herbicide w**d control
🧤 Rubbish removal and general bushland maintenance

They might be some of the basics, but these are the jobs that need to be done consistently throughout the year to help reduce w**ds, protect native vegetation and keep our natural areas in good condition.

Just another couple of days caring for Country. 🌿

🌿 Project Spotlight – Dieback Management | City of Melville

Our team has been undertaking Phytophthora dieback management across bushland sites within the City of Melville as part of the City’s ongoing control program.

The works have included foliar phosphite spraying, stem injection treatments, mapping and assessment, sampling, and the installation of dieback signage across a number of bushland areas.

🌳 These photos show our team carrying out stem injection treatments on susceptible trees as part of the program.

Dieback management involves understanding where the disease is present, monitoring affected areas and using targeted treatment methods to help protect susceptible native vegetation. Signage also plays an important role in helping identify managed areas and support awareness across bushland sites.

It’s another important part of the environmental work our team delivers to help protect and care for country.

🌿 Throwback – Kings Park | Mt Eliza Scarp Revegetation Project

Back in 2024–2025, our team delivered Stage 1 of the Mt Eliza Scarp Revegetation Project at Kings Park.

The works followed the detection of Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer (PSHB) in heritage-listed trees onsite. Sadly, affected trees had to be removed, creating an opportunity to revegetate the area and begin establishing new vegetation for the future.

As part of Stage 1, our team installed approximately 40,000 native plants across the steep Mt Eliza scarp, planting into areas stabilised with coir matting. The challenging terrain made the works physically demanding, but it was rewarding to see such a significant area progressively revegetated.

🌱 This video shows the progress of Stage 1 from Year 1 to Year 2 — and it’s great to see how far the planting has come.

Since then, we’ve also planted Stages 2 and 3, which are currently establishing. We’ll share another video later on to show how those stages are progressing too.

It’s always rewarding to return to a site and see the results developing year after year.

Care for Country today, while establishing something for the future.

Meet our Founder and Managing Director, Matthew Kickett

Matthew’s environmental career began in 2016 through an Indigenous Bushland Officer traineeship with the City of Swan.

When there was no permanent bushland role available at the end of his traineeship, he decided to create his own opportunity—and opportunities for others.

At just 21 years old, Matthew purchased an older four-wheel drive, built his first work trailer and started Aboriginal Land Care without investors or a business loan.

Today, ALC has grown into an established environmental contracting business delivering projects across Western Australia.

For Matthew, the purpose remains simple: deliver quality work, look after our people, care for Country and build a lasting legacy for future generations.

Caring for Country. Delivering Environmental Outcomes.

🌿 Did you know?

Aboriginal Land Care started in 2017 with an old four-wheel drive, a homemade trailer, a few tools and a strong vision to care for Country while creating genuine employment and career pathways for Aboriginal people.

Nine years later, we’ve grown into an established environmental contracting business, employing up to 30 people during peak season and delivering services for more than 30 government and private-sector clients.

While we’ve grown, our purpose remains the same: deliver quality work, look after our people, care for Country and build a lasting legacy for our families and community.
