Over the next week , the resources, lists of suppliers , ( that don’t have massive profit margins) I wished had of been accessible in one place . I remember spending half a day looking for a particular heel “Band-Aid “, which we needed for mum to protects mums heels from the constant rubbing whilst asleep or resting We intend .to fill it with tools, research and free downloads for everyone to access . I woke up a few mornings ago after sleeping on a few ideas . t h r e s h o l d s… are these last items that are thought about and are they sadly the easiest to cut when considering the logistics of great design and client budgets ? I have lots to say , it’s raw and probably contains spelling errors but Facebook is where I get those ideas out when my eyes spring open, and I need to get what’s in my head out into the world . This is a picture of aged care centre entrance . I read this as compliance / safety not home .

Work must done on the THRESHOLDS / edge/ boundary of aged care / residential homes / insert term that describes a dwelling that enables our aging population to live safely , holistically and as they have always lived.

It’s the item that when budgeting is dropped , reduced, or not thought about enough in my opinion.
I feel it has potential to protect ( our loved ones) , extend ( spaces), and invigorate the typology .

I don’t make any apologies for not liking aged care institutions .

But It’s not the people in them or the many beautiful overworked angels , that work / and try to nurture the best way they can , in them , it’s what’s the building is going to peoples psyche. it’s these looming fears that are being constructed before our eyes , but we only really see them when it’s too late , and we are lulled into thinking this is the only option .

It’s not.

Home!! Look at homes ! Our cities, towns , have a lot of them , invigorate homes, invigorate the current model of “aged care”. , But when we need to extend our our ability to care for our [mum/dad/sister/ aunt/brother/uncle/child/friend] we need to do shake up the model, and let it be free of the items that is shaping it now. It’s not working . Budgets can either innovate or restrict . Sadly I see them restricting right now .

I’m not opposed to beautiful architecture . And trusting the profession of architecture for rich endeavours to fulfill society’s needs and their living ; i pause and wonder if the ideas / rigour could be diverted at the stage of conception.

Why this typology? What is the initial model that Instigated rigour of this beautiful piece of hard work. I once posed a question to a more experienced and registered architect, why are we pursuing this model for aged care. This response if I could develop a model that incorporated all the needs into something smaller , I would be very successful . But success , alone is objective . We all have a certain idea of that looks like , and who am I to say what is right. My idea of success would be to provide real choice . At present I’ve seen the plight of aged care, beautiful spaces are necessary to care for our loved ones at certain times in their lives , but certain drivers need to questioned , so we don’t make it the status quo.
