It is with great sadness and a heavy heart I’m sending my condolences to Jayds dad Pete and family in this devastating time.
Jayd was my apprentice who showed great potential in being an outstanding carpenter, he worked with me in a two man crew, myself and Jayd, we worked together right up to a few weeks before getting my shoulder operated on. I made a promise to him that I’d get him back on the tools with me when I returned to work So he could finish his time within anthony Pinese building to become a quality carpenter. He would turn up everyday willing to try his best, eager to learn and put his stamp on the industry always asking questions and showing great interest. In the time spent as an apprentice he soon became a valuable part of the company not only was he my apprentice and knowing his role, he became a lot more. In no time he became family and helped me grow as person. Being only a two man crew jayd and myself, there was a lot of banter! Never a dull moment onsite. He was mature beyond his years and cheeky as hell, working with Jayd was a pleasure although when it came down to being serious he knew the job at hand and what needed to be done. But most of all was respectful to everyone he came across whether it be tradies or clients. After getting to know him and the vocabulary teenagers come up with I was now familiar with his lingo and cheekiness.
Realising what jayd was about as a person, the values and morals he stood by proved to me was a perfect fit as to what I wanted in an apprentice.
In the time Jayd was working with me I had the pleasure to get to know him and learning what he got up too outside of work hours was always a great start to the mornings.
Hearing the love he had for life, his mates and of course the gym. Rizz’s (Jayds nickname I gave him) motivation in the gym and consistency he showed not only in the gym every arvo after work but to work itself was second to none.
Jayd was not one to let anyone down especially when working in the early stages of his apprenticeship, one day he turned up for work sick with the flu I said ‘rizz you’re sick go home’ his reply was ‘I’m not going to call saying im sick I’m here to work if you send me home it’s up to you at least you made that judgment’, from that point I knew jayd was reliable, honest and cared about his job I knew this kid was special and stood out among most. Always dreaming big.
He definitely is a one of kind guy.
The day I started calling him ‘rizz’ with that big Colgate smile he turns and says ‘some can and some can’t’… he had response for everything but always staying respectful, always keeping me on my toes. Each day I’d say what are you up too this afternoon rizz his reply without a doubt was going the gym, I Told him you’re legs are that big you’re going to bust the seams of those shorts he told me they weren’t big enough always hungry for more, chasing goals was easy when you have a mind set like the one of Jayds. Each day starting and finishing off with a fist bump or hand shake, listening to country music and my terrible singing he made working each day better you were all and more than I could ask for in an apprentice.
One day I went to look for a kid for work experience to potentially end up with and apprenticeship. I ended up speaking to jayd and his class, out of that class he was the only one to come and speak to me after the bell rang to go home he stayed asking what he needed to do to get a job. Again leaving me with the impression he has what it takes to be the cut above the rest and had that hunger to succeed and be great in whatever he set his mind too. It’s hard to believe in such a short amount of time one person can make such a massive impact
I’m going to miss you rizz I’ll cherish those memories, banter and good times forever. Thanks for the ride… Rest in peace. Love ya mate.
